Job Description:
Reporting to the University’s designated Export Control Officer, the Export Control Manager works collaboratively as part of a team that is responsible for implementing export control policies, processes and federal regulations and laws at Brown University. The Export Control Manager conducts complex assessments of a variety of export control scenarios that arise related to teaching, travel, shipping, and other common University activities, and advises students, faculty, and administrators regarding appropriate policies and procedures. This individual prepares and applies for export control licenses, devises and implements control plans, conducts requisite screening, reviews agreements that include export control terms and/or global engagements, and performs quality assurance monitoring to ensure related compliance. The Export Control Manager develops and administers export control compliance training and education to a wide variety of University stakeholders and interfaces with external regulators and University visitors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years related experience, or equivalent of education and work experience.
- 1 to 2 years’ experience with export control regulations.
- Familiarity with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations.
- Must be a self-starter, detailed oriented, and committed to a high degree of discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex, detailed regulations, with limited guidance and/or direction required.
- Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to present to large and small audiences, and a customer-oriented attitude.
- Must p ossess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
- Ability to review and understand technical data for export classifications.
- Must be able to operate specialized software (e.g., Visual Compliance, InfoEd) with proficiency or have the ability to learn.
