The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 107 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. Having recently completed a new strategic framework, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County—including NHM at Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits and museum in mid-Wilshire, and the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall—is looking forward to new building projects and campaigns, exhibitions, community outreach, and innovative audience engagement.
The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County seeks an experienced exhibition project manager who is an energetic, collaborative, and extremely organized individual who manages the budget, planning, and implementation of special exhibitions and collection-based installations. This position is responsible for leading cross-departmental teams from project concept to completion, and beyond. The successful candidate will bring an organized and creative mindset to the position.
The Exhibitions team creates dynamic in-house experiences, both at the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park and La Brea Tar Pits at the mid-Wilshire campus, collaborates with various institutions on projects, and hosts international touring exhibitions. Both locations are engaging in new building projects, community outreach, and innovative audience engagement.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Guides interdisciplinary team of content experts, designers, and producers in the creation of content-rich, interactive, and object-based exhibitions and digital gallery experiences.
- Responsible for project schedules, budgets, contracts, vendor management, and for maintaining the team’s collaboration tools (Basecamp and others).
- Manages the planning and execution of exhibits and schedules with complex deadlines, from small to large temporary and permanent exhibitions, gallery upgrades, and peripheral experiences.
- Team cheerleader and champion for the team's adherence to established exhibition process and procedures, and for shaping and revising these practices over time.
- Serves as an internal, cross-departmental liaison for Exhibitions and the museum’s representative for the project with external partners, media outlets, donors, and other stakeholders as needed.
This position has the following requirements:
- A Bachelor's Degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited institution in the life sciences, biology, visual arts or equivalent experience;
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience in project management for exhibitions or designed experiential spaces, preferably in science or cultural institutions. Specific interest and experience in one or more areas of knowledge that relate to science, culture and/or history would be ideal.
- Experience with effective budget management and long-term planning and implementation.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment to working with a diverse community. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $63,500 with experience plus excellent benefits. This is a full time regular, exempt position.
