Job Description
Description: JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides both verbal and written communication participants, their families and their designated physicians; monitors daily exercise sessions for the purpose of evaluating the participant's physiologic response to exercise training (to include accurate recognition and interpretation of EKG abnormalities and arrhythmias) and for teaching safe, effective exercise techniques; leads group exercise classes; organizes and teaches classes for the purpose of educating participants about cardiac risk factors and the current recommendations for their reduction and control. Participate as case manager as requested. Responsible for participating in departmental quality improvement process and for meeting all departmental and hospital requirements regarding infection control and safety. Complies with hospital and department policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in the field of Exercise Science with MS, MA, or MEd required for providing formal evaluations or functioning as a case manager for Cardiac Rehab patients.
  • Exercise Specialist certification or ACSM certification applicable to practice level preferred or demonstrated ability to complete criteria within 6 months of employment. Commensurate work history in lieu of certification accepted at the discretion of the director.
  • Current BLS certification. Current ACLS certification or demonstrated ability to complete criteria within 1 year of employment if responsibilities involve monitoring exercise for cardiac rehab Patients.
  • Two years experience organizing and providing Adult Health and Fitness Programs preferable.
  • Minimum one year experience in cardiac rehab (may include internship).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
