Job Description
ResponsibilitiesProvides service to members including assessments, exercise programming, education and workout instruction. Assists clinical coordinator in ensuring quality of service and developing/implementing new programs on a daily basis.QualificationsRequirements:
  • B.S. in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation or other health related field required.
  • Specialization or certification in clinical cardiovascular health preferred.
  • Minimum of one-year clinical experience in Cardiac Rehab program preferred, with emphasis on wellness, communication skills, customer orientation, and ability to lead through demonstration.
  • Knowledge of exercise testing protocols, indications/contraindications of exercise and health, training techniques and administration.
  • BLS required if no ACLS certification.
  • ACLS certification, EKG coursework and experience preferred.
  • Desire to work with a comprehensive health care team.

Functions:
  • Participate and assist in the development of external fitness and health activities.
  • Contact patients in a professional and enthusiastic manner.
  • Promote an environment of professionalism and motivation that encourage patient participation.
  • Perform necessary customer relation services.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of all exercise equipment and be capable of explaining and demonstrating proper use.
  • Assist patients with special needs, such as physical handicaps, in the performance of their exercise program.
  • Initially assess patient in regards to exercise physiology and clinical data to develop a plan of care with other team members.
  • Conduct blood pressure, weight, EKG and other health related checks for patients.
  • Design inpatient programs based on fitness and health assessment data that establishes position on exercise continuum.
  • Plan and evaluate patients regarding home exercise programs and use of equipment.
  • Work closely with Rehab team on exercise programs and application.
  • Help develop education programs targeting topics, which meet the needs and goals of patients.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of special events i.e. health fairs, community activities, educational classes, etc. as needed.
  • Prepares and adjusts individual exercise prescriptions in accordance with GXT and physician recommendations on a regular basis.
  • Review patient progress with other staff at staff meetings.
  • Provides educational programs for participants in areas of expertise.
  • Assist in the collection of all patient chart information.
  • Documents initial and daily exercise data into participant records.
  • Develop and maintain a maintenance safety check system for all equipment used in assessment and programming. Order and schedule repair of equipment in coordination with
  • BIOMED and the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Use computer skills effectively in drafting reports, letters, and maintaining client information.
  • Work closely with Rehab Director to ensure that the rehab program facilities are properly maintained program facilities are properly maintained (ie. patient status, equipment safety checks, etc.)
  • Prepare statistical data reports on patients and groups for review and presentation.
  • Monitors patients and reports any inappropriate response to exercise as needed.
  • Leads warm up and cool down sessions demonstrate proper body position and proper use of equipment to prevent injury and adhere to the exercise prescription.
  • Assist with emergency care according to standing orders
  • Keeps current in the areas of exercise science, wellness and preventive health care to insure the viable development of an ongoing rehab program.
  • Effectively handle and report all stressful and emergency situations, which may arise in the day-to-day operations of the program to the Cardiac Rehab Clinical Coordinator.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of all exercise equipment, and be capable of explaining and demonstrating the proper use.
  • Assist in writing health promotion and program information for various publications as appropriate based on data collected from assessment and attendance reports.
  • Communicates effectively through written reports (initial, interim, and final) to physicians.
  • Effectively communicates with patients through education classes.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psycho social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.
