Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) is a private, non-profit technical college located in Boston’s South End. Founded in 1908, the college is proud of its long tradition of educating students for skilled, high-demand technical careers in a variety of industries, including automotive, advanced manufacturing, computer technology, health care, and construction trades through a mixture of 1-year, 2-year, and 4-year programs. Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology recently received the largest gift in its history: $12.5 million from the Cummings Foundation to continue to advance its leading-edge work in creating technical career pathways for students typically underrepresented in post-secondary education.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly strategic Executive Director to maximize the effectiveness of programs and provide leadership to a newly developed Center for Center for Interdisciplinary Technology at the College. Reporting to the Dean of Academics, the Executive Director is a newly developed role, and will be a key member of Academic Affairs Leadership Team, The Executive Director will also collaborate closely with the Associate Dean of Admissions and Recruitment and Marketing Coordinator to share our programs externally to key stakeholders.
We are looking for a seasoned and collaborative Executive Director who leads with empathy, humility, and a clear understanding of technology training. The Executive Director will possess a true passion for technical training in the areas of computer, health technology, automotive, and general education.
Key Responsibilities:
The Executive Director will:
Oversee Strategy Development, Program Management, and Cross-Program Synergy
- Participate in the creation of, and lead implementation of, BFIT’s programmatic vision for current programs and strategies including public interest litigation, technology policy, and technology enhancements for computer technology, automotive, opticianry and general education training.
- Oversee strategic planning and evaluation processes, and lead organization in adapting strategies based on emerging internal and external events and issues. New programs currently being evaluated include addressing the current technology trends in industry and ensure state of the art technology and equipment is provide to students.
- Assist faculty in developing and implementing a well-defined curriculum that includes diverse program strengths.
- Ensure programs are synergistic and coordinated.
- Participate in budget development by providing detailed justification for grant proposals and budget initiatives.
Partner with Leadership Team, and Wider Staff
- Serve on the Leadership Team in Academic Affairs and ensure that decisions made are in the best interest of staff and the organization.
- Work as a thought partner with the Dean of Academics on management, budgetary, and curriculum planning.
- Partner with the Marketing Coordinator to elevate BFIT’s overall messaging and communications about BFIT’s commitment to Computing and Interdisciplinary Technology.
- Partner with the Chief Campaign Officer to successfully assist in generating revenue into BFIT to fund the Center.
Represent BFIT’s Center for Computing and Interdisciplinary Technology (CCIT) externally
- Serve as spokesperson for CCIT with partner agencies, news media, and the public.
- Represent CCIT with donors, both in writing and in person.
- Partner with coalitions and allies in the non-profit, for-profit and government sectors.
Qualifications:
We’re looking for a strategic and inspiring leader who has the following:
- Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible leadership positions and experience teaching technical courses in any technical discipline.
- Proven success working as part of a management team. This should include partnering with other teams, such as admissions and marketing, to integrate those functions into program activities.
- Expertise facilitating group discussions and processes that value each person’s expertise and important contributions to decisions/discussions.
- Demonstrated commitment to–and ability to actively promote–diversity, equity, inclusion and technology, and experience communicating with, managing, and coordinating diverse groups within a multicultural workforce.
- Demonstrated commitment to intersectionality in priority-setting, program design, and communications.
- Shared vision that a progressive non-profit can successfully partner with businesses whose leaders share our values.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- An open mind and a growth mindset, with a proven track record of being highly creative and resourceful.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership skills.
- Enthusiasm and effectiveness in fundraising.
- Excellent communication skills, both in speech and writing.
- Competency in the use of a variety of technical platforms.
- Strong public speaking ability.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
Preferred Candidate will have:
- Terminal or doctorial level degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate field;
- Ability, experience, and prior success in establishing and growing partnerships;
- A demeanor of patience, with an ability to remain calm and open-minded;
- Experience working with students from diverse academic, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds;
- Proficiency in assessment and continuous improvement;
- Work experience in a technical field; and
- Understanding of and commitment to the BFIT mission.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
