Job Description

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to children with autism, a day habilitation program for young adults, where clients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities, employment services for those with disabilities and four residential homes for individuals unable to live in their own home. Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976. The Executive Assistant position will primarily support the CEO of the agency.

Job Duties: *

  • Supports the CEO in daily duties and schedules.
  • Attends Board of Directors meetings and records meeting minutes.
  • Prepares contracts for CEO signature.
  • Manages the CEO’s calendar.
  • Tracks and processes deposits on behalf of agency.
  • Screens incoming mail.
  • Organizes internal and external meetings including scheduling, logistics, ordering refreshments/food, setup, etc.
  • Prepares reports, spreadsheets, presentations, correspondences, and other documents.
  • Maintains orderly file system.
  • Coordinates travel arrangements.
  • Provides administrative support to leadership team.
  • Maintains office supplies.
  • Assists with the organization of special events as needed.
  • Serves as backup to receptionist when needed.

Requirements:

  • Nonprofit experience a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, high school diploma required.
  • Three to five years experience in an administrative, secretarial, or executive assistant capacity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the position.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Fully vaccinated for COIVD-19.

About Avondale House:

Avondale House is a United Way non-profit agency that provides educational and training services to children and adults with autism.To that end, we operate a year-round TEA-approved day school where we serve over 75 students from more than 20 different school districts, up to the age of 21 years old. Each student receives specific education and training according to their individualized education and behavior improvement plans.We also have a day habilitation program for adults 22 and older, who need a safe and nurturing environment to continue developing skills for independence. Clients participate in daily living skills and pre-vocational training through activities on campus as well as through community and volunteer outings.The agency also operates three group homes, licensed by HHSC, in southwest Houston for our clients who are unable to live in their own homes. Residents enjoy family-style life with weekend and evening recreation; as well as training in tasks such as laundry, housekeeping and cooking. Each client also receives support with medical needs and daily hygiene according to their abilities.
