Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for preparation of project price development as the primary cost estimator in the regional area. Successful candidate will have superior presentation skills and influencing/sales capabilities. Must have had experience in drafting and delivering presentations to customers and clients.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1) Identify all prospective project opportunities

a) Prime

b) Subcontract

c) Coordinate and collaborate with Growth team members to create, update and maintain a viable project pipeline

2) Obtain all procurement documents needed for potential projects

a) Download from internet

b) Get plans from prime contractor or owner of project

c) Visit project sites as needed to determine project feasibility and cost estimate

d) Prepare project scorecard or other documentation to present to deal team for go/no go decision

3) Prepare Bid/Obtain Approval to submit bid

a) Determine quantities to be used to prepare cost basis

b) Identify and prepare questions from plans, proposals and drawings

c) Submit questions to client after reviewing with deal team

d) Use bidding software program or Excel workbook to prepare bid

i) Material costs via supplier quotes and/or coordinate with corporate material procurement staff

ii) Direct costs (labor and truck/equipment vetted with operations staff

iii) Subcontract costs via quotes

iv) Overhead cost

v) Calculate operating/gross profit, net contribution, EBITDA, IRR and cash flow

e) Determine final unit prices (including incidental costs) for submittal to client

f) Understand market, company expectations and price point to win

g) Coordinate, collaborate and confirm final price with Operations Manager, Safety team, Fleet/Procurement and Human Resources on their respective items

h) Coordinate, collaborate and confirm pricing decisions with Technical Proposal team (if applicable)

i) Prepare final bid summary/memo and present it for approval at appropriate management level

j) Coordinate with corporate procurement coordinator on final submittal document to client

k) File/Save bid in appropriate locations

4) Post Bid Follow-up

a) Track all bids and record on spreadsheet/leads management database

i) Total amount of bids

ii) Total amount of bids received

iii) Prepare other reports as needed regarding bidding activity, results, etc.

b) Transition to Operations

i) Assist (and prepare as necessary) the Project Manager in:
(1) Preparation of the Project Set-up Report

(2) Preparation of the initial project budget from bid file

(3) Follow up and assist as needed though project lifecycle with Project Manager on project pricing related items

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED
Previous Estimator experience in a related industry is required
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required
Very good Math skills
Understanding of financial terms and how they relate to business operations is preferred
Excellent organizational and communication skills are required
Knowledge of DOT or other government regulations and specifications is preferred
