Qualifications

Graduation from a standard Vocational or High School or Certificate of Equivalency (GED).

Must have successfully completed one of the following:

o 2-year vocational training on small engine repair

o Certificate of completion of industry training program in small engine repair plus 2 years of experience.

o Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License driver’s license (CDL) with no restrictions for airbrakes within 6 months of appointment, or equivalent out-of-state driver’s license with no suspensions or revocations for driving related offenses within the previous 2 years period.

PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT

o Candidate's driving record will be reviewed prior to an offer of employment.

o Reference checks and a criminal background investigation will be completed as a condition of hire for all new employees and for former employees who have not been employed by the District for more than six months.

EXPECTATIONS

Must possess a certificate showing completion of training in PRO 10 through the union within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

o Repairs, maintains and services district equipment (e.g., Lawn mowers, weed whips, chainsaws, trimmers, snow blowers, small grounds maintenance equipment).

o Performs diagnostic testing on various pieces of equipment to determine the root cause of the issue.

o Performs functional and diagnostic tests to locate defects in operation or to verify work.

o Inspects new equipment for compliance with contract specifications and requirements of the user and apply any identification markings as required.

o Repairs and maintains all types of small engine equipment.

o Develop and maintain the file of maintenance and repair manuals for all district small engine devices preferably on line.

o Maintain the equipment repair history, preventative maintenance scheduling using TRIRIGA.

o Establish the minimum inventory of spare parts needed to perform repair of assigned equipment. Maintain the inventory records on TRIRIGA.

o Develop and modifies equipment to effect improvements or to meet new requirements.

o Operate acetylene and arc-welding equipment in the repair of a variety of equipment.

o Works with the department’s approved vendors to coordinate the procurement of materials and resources required for the effective completion of work assigned.

o Able to self transport as needed.

o Contributes to the District's mission and values and the alignment and sustainability of resources. Positively influencing positive workplace and environment.

o Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

o Working ability to understand and follow drawings, blueprints and oral instructions.

o Knowledgeable of the safety precautions of the work.

o Ability to learn procedures and techniques used in the maintenance, servicing and repair of small engine equipment.

o Ability to learn the operation of and develop the skills needed to operate various tools.

o Ability to plan and schedule own work to meet the targeted completion date given to the customer and communicate professionally any changes to the plan.

o Possess basic computer & mobile device skills, including proficiency in a corrective & preventive work order system, word processing and data manipulation.

o Ability to listen, speak and interact effectively with all customers.

o Ability to assist in identifying and responding to the needs of all customers.

o Ability to complete required departmental forms, records, and daily reports in a thorough and timely manner.

o Ability to effectively listen, speak, write, and positively interact with work groups and customers.

o Demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the diversity of customers, co-workers, supervisors and vendors.

o Ability to operate a lift.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be physically able to:

o Operate fleet vehicle

o Able to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop or crouch, kneel, crawl, reach, push, grasp, talk, and hear.

o Able to lift above shoulder.

o Clarity of vision at inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space relationships, bring objects into sharp focus and identify and distinguish colors.

o Medium work - exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

o Routine work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs mechanic work overhauling, repairing and preventive maintenance on a variety of small engine equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment if needed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor or Distribution Manager.

WORK DIRECTION EXERCISED

May give work direction to trainees and or apprentices.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This is a 12 month position working 40 hours per week.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Machinists negotiated labor agreement. The labor agreement and salary schedule can be found at https://www.spps.org/Page/33566. The minimum rate of pay for this position is $27.30 per hour,
