Job Description
Summary:
The Equipment Mechanic diagnoses the nature of malfunctions of various types of automobiles, vans, light duty trucks, heavy equipment and other related equipment. Employee determines the type and extent of repair necessary and performs work as required.
Relationships:
- Reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Frequent contact with the Assistant Manager or Supervisor.
- Works independently or with management on projects.
Responsibilities:
- Performs all tasks safely, complies with all internal and external safety requirements, supports ITRCC safety culture, attends all safety trainings and completes all compliance trainings as required by ITRCC.
- Uphold ITRCC’s core values: Customer Service, Respect, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork (CREST).
- Required to work Rotating Schedule during winter shifts.
- Required to be on-call and available during snow events.
- Required to make road calls for emergency repairs.
- Required to do gas and electric welding.
- Diagnoses automotive, truck and heavy equipment malfunctions.
- Maintains inventory control and other records.
- Completes engine, transmission or front suspension overhaul.
- Replaces or repairs major engine, transmission, differential, suspension or electrical components.
- Performs routine preventative work.
- Install automobile, truck and heavy equipment accessories, such as oil
and air filters, windshield wiper blades, fan belts, and batteries.
- Modifies equipment for additional equipment to be used.
- Performs diagnosis of mechanical or electrical breakdowns and makes necessary adjustments and repairs such as replacing fuel pumps, replacing gaskets, replacing exhaust system, repairing or replacing brake drums, linings, and brake fluid, etc.
- Maintains service records for work completed.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Regular reliable attendance.
- Must furnish and maintain all tools to make required repairs. (except for specialty tools).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/ GED
- Extensive knowledge of automobile, truck and heavy equipment functions, systems and repairs
- Extensive knowledge of auto, truck and heavy equipment repair procedures and repair materials and tools used in auto repair
- Practical knowledge of appropriate safety precautions
- Ability to use sophisticated electronic diagnostic equipment, repair manuals and parts catalogues
- Ability to use suspension alignment equipment
- Ability to trouble shoot electrical problems
- Ability to communicate with parts stores when calling on parts
- Must maintain a clean and organized work area at all times
- Is occasionally required to lift automobile parts and equipment weighing from 20-75 pounds and
frequently works in uncomfortable or cramped conditions
- Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air-brake and tanker
endorsement
Desirable Experience:
- 1-5 years’ experience in automotive/truck repair
Working Conditions:
- This position requires: (Frequent est. 5 hrs per shift)
- Frequent Standing, Walking and Sitting.
- Frequent Talking and Hearing.
- Moderate Physical Effort.
- Heavy Computer usage.
- Travel time required may be up to 25%
