Epilepsy Resource Room Coordinator
Full-Time (1700 Hours) - average 30-40 hours/week
Background:
AmeriCorps is a national community service program that gives people an opportunity to apply their skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. Epilepsy Foundation New England is a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to help people and families affected by epilepsy in New England. EFNE is seeking AmeriCorps Members to serve with EFNE and UMASS to support people living with and affected by epilepsy.
Position Description:
Epilepsy Foundation New England is seeking Resource Room Coordinators who facilitate a space where patients can seek information on living with epilepsy and be connected through referrals for EFNE and UMASS programs and resources. Stipend for full time is $17,325 with a Segal Educational Award of $6,325 at the completion of service.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide active listening, support, and coaching to patients on life changes that support health and wellness
- Build community among patients by developing and implementing new and existing EFNE and Baystate programs
- Connect patients to Baystate, EFNE, and community resources and running educational trainings/conferences
- Inpatient support for patients needing connection before appointments/procedures
- Implement community outreach and mentor recruitment strategies, through maintaining presence and education
- Maintain a library of helpful literature while assisting hospital staff with site-specific needs to improve support
- Reduced half-time will perform these responsibilities in the pediatric clinic
Minimum Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- You must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the U.S. to be an AmeriCorps Member
Skills/Abilities
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Interest in nonprofit organizations and their development
- Experience as a volunteer in any capacity
- Proven commitment to diverse populations, including people with disabilities and/or epilepsy
- Motivation and aptitude for outreach and networking
- Interest in supporting patients and their needs
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- Ability and desire to work in fast-paced, entrepreneurial, team-oriented culture and deadline-sensitive environment
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Flexibility, patience, and a good sense of humor

Terms of Service:
- Position start/end date: August 30, 2021-July 31, 2022
- Service commitment generally performed Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm, with some weekend and evening scheduled with notice
