Job Description
The EH&S Specialist II supports and reinforces the importance of Environment, Health & Safety at multiple Boston Scientific locations. The incumbent is responsible for implementing strategies, policies, and practices to improve the overall EH&S programs, while driving continuous improvement and assuring comprehensive operational compliance with Federal, State and local regulations.
In this role you will.
- Provide general support to EH&S Function across all operations at multiple locations
- Maintain EH&S programs and participate in new program implementation
- Serve as EH&S representative in cross functional projects for new process/chemical introduction, capacity expansion, facility changes, new equipment introduction, etc.
- Work with Supervisors, Trainers and Technicians to identify and control significant environmental health and safety impacts of operations
- Perform day to day activities to maintain compliance with local, state and federal regulations
- Support management of the Workers’ Compensation program, and pro-actively work to reduce workplace injury frequency and severity rates
- Conduct internal and external EH&S compliance audits, self-assessments, and inspections throughout the facilities
- May be required to coordinate and deliver EH&S related education
- Strengthen the EH&S culture through cross-functional cooperation, communications, promotions, and training on EH&S procedures, industrial hygiene activities, safety surveys
- Review and revise procedures, and serve as a core member of the emergency response team
- Provide regulatory guidance and recommendations for facilities modifications as well as equipment specifications and installations
- Act as the facilities’ Hazardous Materials & Waste Coordinator to include the disposition of hazardous, non-regulated, and biomedical waste streams; maintaining professional contacts with approved waste vendors
- Maintain and report site EH&S metrics, statistics and records to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and fulfill corporate reporting needs
- Advocate for EH&S as a core value of Boston Scientific and provide regular communications within the EH&S team regarding EH&S activities and performance
- Conduct chemical and SDS risk assessments, as well as operations risk assessments to specify engineering controls, and other regulatory requirements as applicable
- Identify hazardous workplace conditions and establish guidelines for compliance, risk and injury reduction
- Participate in regulatory inspections and serve as liaison with regulatory agencies
- Chair or serve on EH&S-related committees, task forces and/or cross-functional teams
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering or Safety Management with 2yrs experience or Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with 5yrs relevant EH&S experience
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
- Ability to work with cross-functional groups and manage EH&S programs
- Knowledge of injury and incident prevention programs (ergonomic, risk assessments, root cause analysis)
- Ability to compile and lead training exercises
- Able to travel up to 10% in and out of state
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2yrs working experience in a manufacturing and/or industrial setting
- Experience building and leading teams focused on EH&S culture, change and continuous improvement
