Job Description
Join ICF in a newly renovated laboratory facility with current instrumentation in support of a contract with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the Region 9 Laboratory in Corvallis, Oregon. ICF is seeking an Organic Environmental Chemist to join our team of technicians and chemists in support of the EPA Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT) contract. This team analyses samples and provides technical and quality assurance (QA) support to the EPA Superfund and other programs to facilitate the identification, assessment, remediation and regulation of environmental hazards. The team performs soil, water, air, waste, and tissue sample analysis for chemical contaminants using EPA-approved methods. Key Responsibilities:

- Preparation and analysis of soil, water and other matrices for volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds using GC, GC/MS and QQQ LCMS instrumentation in compliance with EPA methods and Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs)
- Perform analyses in compliance with all technical, Quality Assurance, and Health, Safety and Environmental Management requirements
- Help resolve sample matrix or instrument performance issues for the analyses performed
- Monitor the analytical request backlog for assigned methods and perform analyses accordingly
- Ensure proper data upload to LIMS and perform primary review for all analyses performed
- Receive instructions from the Department Lead as well as the Environmental Chemistry Lab Lead
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or environmental or physical science
- 4 years of laboratory experience including at least 2 years of experience performing preparation and analysis of environmental samples according to SW-846, EPA Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) or AWWA Standard Methods
- Significant, recent “hands on” experience with operation, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance for GC, GC/MS or LCMS instruments. Consideration will be given to candidates who possess the requisite instrument experience for applications in fields other than environmental chemistry.
- Proficiency with data acquisition, processing, review and reporting via instrument software and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Proficiency with Promium Element is a plus
- Experience in a NELAC, A2LA, ISO17025 or equivalent accredited laboratory is required
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Recent experience with analytical method development for environmental sample analysis particularly for emerging contaminants or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is a plus
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to pass an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property
