Job Description Summary:

General Motors is looking for energetic Industrial Engineers to be part of its diverse manufacturing team. The industrial engineering department is responsible for implementing the latest advances in lean manufacturing while delivering world-class throughput achieved through line balance and waste elimination.

The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to your success at General Motors. You will be collaborating with other engineering disciplines, production personnel, and outside suppliers. You will be an integral contributor during the launch of exciting new vehicles. The selected candidate must have the following attributes: strong analytic and problem-solving skills, a keen attention to detail, strong communication skills, and act with high integrity.

As an Industrial Engineer in the Rotational Program, you will start your career by rotating through a series of assignments within industrial engineering while gaining exposure to the overall company. These dynamic rotations will rapidly develop the skill set that enables the candidate's success. Due to their wide skill set and knowledge base, industrial engineers are considered a "jack of all trades" which leads to exciting potential career opportunities.

Work Location:

Most rotational assignments will be located at a vehicle assembly plant in MI, but may also include rotations at the Global Technical Center in Warren, MI. Many of these manufacturing sites are paving the way to GM's all-electric future preparing for new vehicle launches that will implement cutting edge technologies and lean manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement workstation designs that meet safety and ergonomic requirements

  • Maintain accurate time study and ergonomic evaluations for each workstation

  • Drive continuous improvement activities for assigned area

  • Implement lean manufacturing concepts (GMS)

  • Support development of assembly process for future vehicle models

Additional Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Controls Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Supply Chain, or Production Engineering.

  • Manufacturing Plant experience preferred

  • Graduating between April 2021 and June 2022

  • Capable and willing to travel as needed

Desired Skills:

Industrial Engineering Skills

  • Knowledge of time study and motion analysis

  • Knowledge of human factors engineering / ergonomic analysis

  • Experience in documentation of standardized work procedures

  • Experience in implementation of lean manufacturing concepts, such as Six Sigma

  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office (heavily focused on Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Working knowledge of computer aided drafting tools (AutoCAD / SolidWorks / Line Designer)

Interpersonal Skills

  • Self-motivated individual with continuous improvement focus

  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization
  • Actively engaged with work teams and plant personnel
  • Ability to adapt to different interpersonal styles and communication methods
  • Trusted resource with high integrity with regards to their personal actions and work assignments
  • Project management and time management skills

  • Strong oral & written communication skills

This role offers the following Work Appropriately strategies:
  • Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
  • Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
