Position Summary

The Engineering Support Technician works and supports materials testing and the product development center. It requires the ability to prioritize workload and manage schedules for a variety of tests as well as familiarity with ASTM/ISO and other standard or customer test requirements.

Responsibilities

- Support testing for rubber materials lab - conduct tests including but not limited to tensile/tear (Instron), rheology (MDR/MV), analytical (DMA/TGA/DSC/FTIR), aging and weathering. - Support rubber compounding process - weighing, mixing, milling, and molding slabs (heat press) for testing. - Troubleshoot mechanical and software related machine issues to ensure proper functioning of equipment and maintain calibration schedules for equipment. - Interact and communicate with chemists and engineers to understand test requirements and project needs. - Manage ingredient inventories for compounding recipes. - May be responsible for training co-ops on the use of lab equipment and lab safety.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED, coursework in polymers / rubbers technology preferred Experience: Basic mechanical skills, understanding of lab operations, lab safety, technical documentation and specifications. Previous experience with tensile, rheology, and analytical lab equipment preferred. Basic understanding of polymers/rubbers preferred. Candidates should have 3 - 5 years of experience with material compounding within a lab environment. Computer Skills: Windows proficient, Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, email proficient, ability to learn new software skills relevant to various testing techniques and apparatuses. Personal Skills: Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to work effectively with others and be a team player. Willing to take on a leadership role to improve lab processes and procedures.
