Salary Grade: GN13 Salary Range: $48,051 - $86,431*** THIS IS A RE-POST, PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED TO RE-APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED.***The primary purpose of Location & Surveys is to serve as support services in providing engineering analysis, mapping and other data for the design of transportation facilities and the acquisition of property for the construction of transportation facilities.This is beginning level engineering work in the independent application of professional techniques and standards to moderately difficult transportation, design, or analysis engineering projects, or in assisting higher level engineers on major or complex projects. This position will primarily address the functionality and applicability of survey data for project design with little supervision. This position will support higher level engineers in functional areas such as project design through the review and development of project data. This position is responsible for engineering coordination of projects with both in-house and Private Engineering Firm (PEF) field forces for in-house projects. This position will have primary responsibility in the contact of property owners during project development.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Qualified Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Must be knowledgeable of surveying principles as those apply to boundary, geodetic, and route surveying.Must have experience scheduling survey crews and experience estimating and scoping man-hours for survey work.Must have working knowledge of GNSS survey procedures and processing.Must have working knowledge of coordinate systems and datum’s as used in surveying.Must have experience reviewing the work of others in CADD.Additional ExpectationsBasic knowledge and understanding of concepts, practices, and theories used in the engineering specialty area and the ability to use it in practice. Ability to understand and apply the basic engineering concepts, practices, and theories involved in the design/development/review/permitting, construction, maintenance, operations, or repair of, projects/sites and their potential environmental and safety impacts. Ability to prepare/review small or less complex engineering/technical plans and/or data for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes and design needs; ability to make recommendations to higher level engineers or managers on project concerns/issues. Ability to ensure sufficient coverage/resources for proposed program/project, under the guidance of a higher-level engineer or manager. Ability to make recommendations to approve routine engineering/technical designs and/or program/project specifications of other engineers to meet desired compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes, designs and statutes. Ability to write clear, concise and organized documents and reports addressing basic engineering concepts and facts. Ability to present detailed technical information, guidelines and standards to seek compliance and/or approval. Ability to apply mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences to routine services or creative work as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, and design of engineering/geomatic projects using appropriate planning methods and resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Necessary Special QualificationMay require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
