Job Description
Position Title: EMT-B/ED-Tech
Department: Ambulance
Purpose: Primary responsibilities are to provide prompt and effective emergency medical care to patients of all ages in emergency and non-emergency situations who require stabilization and/or resuscitation as a result of illness or injury in the field. Provides care as set forth by the system protocols. Included in this is accurate documentation of the care provided. In scene management, will follow management structure as set forth by the Federal NIMS standards. Is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, and restocking of any equipment that has been utilized within the ambulance. In addition, functions as an Emergency Department Technician when not serving in the EMT-Basic role in the field.

Supervisory Responsibility: No Supervision: The job does not require the provision of guidance or supervision to others. There is no formal responsibility for directing others.
Materials Responsibility: Very Limited. Work requires very limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include personal work materials, supplies or equipment, or very small amounts of cash. The employee has a very limited or indirect amount of control over these resources. Although human error might require the repair or replacement of materials, usually the cost of correcting these errors is minor. The variety and volume of resources is also very limited. Problems associated with material resources are very uncomplicated.

POSITION SPECIFICATION
Education: High school plus additional course work up to 1 year
Field Of Study: Emergency Medical Services
Special Training: Basic Life Support
Training Preferred: NIMS National Incident Management System 100
Licensure/Registration: EMT-B Illinois license, Valid Driver's license
Experience: No experience required.
Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve gaining the agreement of others.
Working Conditions: There is routine exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions including physical hazards, health and safety risks, and otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment. Personal risks require safety equipment or precautions to be followed closely. The time the employee is exposed to these conditions exceed 70% of their work day.
Possible Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens: Yes
