Job Description

Boston University Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Instructors are employees of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (PERD). This position falls under the direct supervision of the Manager and Assistant Manager of Boston University Emergency Medical Services (BUEMS).


Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and teach small groups of EMT students independently or with a co-instructor
  • Teach and provide feedback on students’:
    • Verbal and physical patient assessment skills
    • Reasoning and understanding of clinical concepts
    • Narrative writing
  • Provide detailed written and verbal performance evaluations for instructor interns
  • Assist with quality improvement of teaching materials through attendance and participation of pre-lab and post-lab
  • Review relevant materials prior to teaching
  • Maintain working knowledge of current Massachusetts EMS protocols
  • Maintain working knowledge of current National Registry EMT standard curriculum
  • Maintain working knowledge of and ability to perform all practical skills taught in course
  • Direct students to the appropriate academic and administrative resources
  • Maintain, set up, and put away equipment and report any issues to office staff
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor during all labs and classes
  • Abide by the BUEMS code of conduct


Required Skills


Qualifications:

  • Current Massachusetts EMT certification
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification
  • Current CPR and First Aid Instructor Certification (mandatory for lead lab instructors, preferred for instructor interns)
