Job Description
Responsibilities/Job Description: The Employee Occupational Health Services (EOHS) RN performs both independent and interdependent nursing functions. Independent functions include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of medical services for worker populations. Interdependent functions include communication strategies with various stakeholders and colleagues (i.e.: recruiting, hiring manager, infection preventionists, case managers, medical director, etc.). The EOHS RN is responsible for performing these functions in accordance with all policy, procedure and professional practice guidelines.
The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of professional nursing care provided to Fairview employees, candidates, providers and other workers at on site clinics.

  • Use on going, systematic process to gather relevant data
  • Involves employee, manager and representatives of other disciplines as appropriate in gathering data
  • Completes initial assessment of worker on the job injuries / illness, health assessments, health screening, immunization status review, fit testing, blood and body fluid exposure follow up and communicable disease exposure follow-up
  • Establishes worker health and wellness goals that are age, work and culturally appropriate
  • Determines if health/wellness goals impact or are impacted by laws, regulations, standards of practice, community best practices
  • Responds appropriately to emergent situations
  • Documents data and identifies outcomes
  • Develops a care plan consistent with medical standards based on organization and customer needs
  • Addresses immunization and infectious disease susceptibility criteria
  • Determines intervention and or recommendations based on relevant needs
  • Identifies and utilizes appropriate internal and external resources
  • Documents and updates plan of care to assure continuity
  • Assists employee and manager with work related issues
  • Coordinates appropriate care, treatment and follow up of work related health considerations based on knowledge of specific regulations, industry practices, work tasks and work environments
  • Provides appropriate care, guidance, support and counseling following various infectious disease and blood and body fluid exposures
  • Coordinates the administration of occupational health services for the completion of audiograms, laser eye exams, DOT exams
  • Coordinates and develops communication plans to support Occupational Health activities for various events including infectious disease exposures: interdepartmental collaboration, defining exposed workers, identifying, notifying, monitoring & follow up of exposed workers, end of exposure care and reporting
  • Documents interventions
  • Systematically and continuously evaluates employee response to interventions
  • Modifies intervention based on employee response
  • Involves manager, representatives of other disciplines and external resources as appropriate
  • Communicates verbal and written information in a clear, concise, accurate and timely manner
  • Communicates effectively with all members pertinent to the service(s) provided: employee, manager, recruiting, HR, infection prevention, case management, etc.
  • Uses communication strategies appropriate to employee and other relevant parties based on need for information
  • Safeguards confidentiality of employee health information and health record
Qualifications:RequiredEducation/Licensure:
  • Minimum AD two year college nursing degree
  • Current MN RN licensure and CPR certification
Experience:
  • Minimum two years work experience in occupational health nursing or in an area of nursing requiring independent nursing skills (i.e.: ER nursing, college health/school nursing, etc.)
  • Minimum computer skills must be sufficient to efficiently work with email, on-line charging, various on-line systems, etc.
PreferredEducation/Licensure:
  • BSN four year college nursing degree
  • Current certification as COHN-S or COHN
Experience:
  • RN with experience or a broad understanding of hospital EOHS processes and infection prevention practices
