SUMMARY
The individual in this position works under the direction of an RN. She/he provides direct and indirect patient care as delegated and directed by the professional staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Tasks that may be performed independently include but are not limited to; equipment set up, phlebotomy, EKG, wound preparation, blood glucose monitoring, CPR, assist patients with personal cares, visual acuity exam, apply splints, specimen collection, DME fitting and teaching, obtaining and documenting patient Vital Signs.
Tasks performed under the specific delegation of an RN include but are not limited to; wound dressing, oxygen application, assisting with procedures, irrigations, restraint application, pressure dressing, patient transfer and repositioning, application or discontinuation of C-Collar, IV discontinuation, foley catheter discontinuation.
Performs general housekeeping duties that are specific to the Emergency Department including room turn over, cleaning clinical equipment, and linen stocking.
Possesses excellent verbal, written and telephone communication skills so as to ensure accurate transmission of information within the ED setting, to other departments, and to outside agencies and physicians.
Work as a collaborative member of the ED team. Demonstrates the ability to perform accurately and maintain composure while in a stressful environment. Demonstrate the ability to adjust to increased volume and activity.
Knows and understands role in disaster plan, fire plan and emergency codes.
Attends certification required classes, department meetings and education meetings.
Supports the policies and procedures of the organization and the standards of The Joint Commission as required for full accreditation. Supports The Joint Commission objectives.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); BLS certification required, EMT or CNA certification required (if certification has lapsed must be renewed withing 6 months of hire), previous experience preferred. Employee will receive on the job training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to prepare accurate and complete correspondence for use by the public. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, visitors, physicians, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Good public relation skills. Ability to deal with many departments. Ability to determine priority of tasks necessary to ensure the highest quality of care for patients' unique situations.
