The mortuary affairs specialist is primarily responsible for prepping the remains of his/her fallen brothers and sisters in arms for burial.

This is an entry level position with no experience necessary.

Position Responsibilities

As a Mortuary Affairs Specialist, you'll draw upon specialized medical training and the upmost respect and compassion to handle the remains and personal effects of soldiers who have fallen in the line of duty. This includes locating and identifying remains in the field, ensuring safe transport of the deceased and their belongings, and assisting with arrangements and military honors at their burial site. You will also inventory and safeguard effects and serve as a specialist at the U.S. Army’s Central Identification Laboratory in Hawaii.

  • Complete the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
  • Attend Basic Combat Training (BCT) for 10 weeks with pay
  • Attend Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for 7 weeks with pay

Basic Qualifications:

  • Age - 17 to 34 years old
  • Education – High School graduate or GED holder; high school seniors also qualify
  • Citizenship - U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident
  • Willing to undergo background and medical screening
