Electronic Development Technician

Primary Objective:

To assist Product Engineers in design, build, test and documentation of electronic products in such a way to enhance or maintain their value and profitability and/or importance to the company. These tasks must be carried out in such a manner that maintains or enhances MTS's ethical standards both internally and externally.

Major Areas of Accountability:

1. Leadership/Team Skills

Accepts responsibility for assigned tasks. Participates as a team member. Works to maintain a positive environment within the group and with other functional support groups. Values and integrates the ideas of others. Works to resolve minor conflicts before they become major. Distinguishes issues from personalities. Demonstrates by example, the desired standards of personal conduct and work performance.

2. Communication Skills

Keeps related groups and management informed of progress and support requirements so that delays are avoided in the hand off of assigned tasks.

3. Schedule Awareness

Completes all tasks within the time and budget allocation. Promptly informs supervisor of any significant events that would result in schedule delays. Shows perseverance and strong follow through.

4. Assembles Prototypes

Builds and modifies prototypes in a manner that allows product to be tested in as close to final condition as possible. Determines most efficient method of repair and ensures that all active prototypes are modified to latest design.

5. Test and Debug Skills

Develops a Test plan for each assigned product under development. Verifies all critical parameters defined in Test plan and documents the results of each test. Demonstrates the ability to ferret out problems in design and make suggestions for corrections to design.

6. Documentation Skills

Records all test data in Lab Notebook or in other appropriate location as may or may not be directed by Engineering Manager. Maintains records in a location that can be retrieved easily. Ensures that Manufacturing documentation is complete and accurate.

7. Manufacturing Start-Up Support

Actively works with Manufacturing as an interface for Engineering. Make sure product goes into Manufacturing with a minimum of difficulty and quickly responds to requests for support from Manufacturing.

Technical Skill Development

Establishes and maintains state-of-the-art knowledge of products and development tools and Test Equipment to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks. Proposes Capital Equipment that could reduce the product development cycle.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

AA degree or 2 yr vo-tech certificate in analog and digital electronics. 5 yrs relevant technical experience after completion of vocational training.
