Job Description
Bosch Research is looking for an intern in mesoscale modeling and materials science to join the energy technologies team. Our goal is to enable improved Bosch products through deep understanding of thermodynamic, kinetic, and transport phenomena at the mesoscale level using a variety of computational tools. Strong focus is placed on development and application of computational methods for understanding of next-generation materials, primarily for electrochemistry and energy conversion.
In this particular position, the intern will work on modeling of degradation mechanisms in proton-exchange-membrane fuel cells. The goal is accurate prediction of the aging kinetics for cathode catalyst layers, under various operating conditions. This work is relevant for defining operating-condition strategies for PEM-FC, as the loss of active surface area during cycling is the main responsible for power loss in fuel cells. A close interaction with the experimental team is also expected: in-house experimental data will be used for model parametrization and validation.

Due to COVID-19 measures, this position will likely involve working remotely. Interacting with the team will occur via video conference, audio conference, email, etc. Strong candidates will have a proven ability to contribute high quality work in a remote work environment.
Qualifications
Required Qualification:
- Pursuing a graduate degree at a top university in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Solid foundations in materials science and computation
- Attention to detail, flexibility, creativity, and excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desired Qualification:
- Significant research and/or coding experience, preferably with fluency in Mathematica
- Experience building electrochemical models of complex systems including interface kinetics, diffusion, and phase change
