Job Summary
This position will handle the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental, safety and health policies and procedures and best practices, particularly related to product manufacturing. This position will require a constant presence on the production floor and within the warehouse to ensure best safety practices are being followed at all times. The EHS Manager will also create, maintain, and enforce Safety Training for all facility personnel. Additionally, this role will work closely with the Operations Team in creating and maintaining a positive and safe workplace.
Responsibilities and Duties
Environmental
- Verifies all materials on site have current SDS or MSDS sheets as required by State and Federal laws.
- Partners with QA/ Food Safety Manager and Maintenance department to ensure proper recording and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
- Maintains State and/or Federal required Environmental Compliance Programs
- Serves as an EHS subject matter expert
Health
- Partner with the QA/ Food Safety Manager to enforce Facility GMPs with employees and visitors
- Implement and oversee a “first responders” team for any accidents that occur within the facility.
- Maintain First Aid/ CPR certifications and become a trainer for these certifications.
- Assist employees with Ergonomics concerns
- Oversee the COVID-19 Checkpoint Team and collaborate with HR on policies and procedures
Safety
- Conduct regular walkthroughs throughout all facilities for identification of facility/job site hazards and risks to prevent injuries, spills, or other EH&S impacts and to ensure compliance with company and customer-specific safety standards and government regulations.
- Implement and enforce regular safety audits in the facilities
- Coordinate Evacuation Plans
- Establish and maintain a First Responder team in the Plant
- Recommend ways to assist the company in creating safer and cleaner processes and continuous improvement.
- Conducts regular monthly Training
- Maintains all Safety incident files
- Establishes, aligns, and supports the Safety Committee. Acts as interim chair and conducts all Safety Committee meetings until a comprehensive behavior-based safety program is established.
- Maintains Train the Trainer PIT equipment certification in order to train new employees as well as certify employees for PIT certification
- Maintains TTT for all required Safety training.
- Maintains injury reports including completion of OSHA forms.
- Assists with Worker’s Compensation claims
- Collaborate with managers, supervisors, and staff to institute loss prevention, loss control, and corrective actions for unsafe and/or potentially unsafe acts, conditions, or equipment.
- Partner with Operations team(s) to develop and distribute communications addressing accidents, near misses, lessons learned, and other EHS related topics
Overall EHS
- Assist departments with coordination, development, and delivery of EHS training and education programs for new hires and existing employees either by use of CBT or in-person training
- Assists with Employee issues in cooperation with the EHS/HR Manager
- Assists with internal audits as needed.
- Compiles and reports Human Resources and Environmental, Health and Safety data.
- Use initiative to independently perform recurring EHS Tasks
- Other duties as assigned
Qualification and Skills
- Able to multi-task and work with multiple interruptions
- Must be able to deal with confidential materials and information professionally and tactfully.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent written communication skills and solid presentation skills
- Ability to prioritize and follow-through to achieve results and meet deadlines to meet the needs of the business
- Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
- Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologists (OHST) preferred.
- Must be able to achieve Power Industrial Truck (PIT) operator certification.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
