Under the supervision of an experienced EEG Tech, assist to provide neurologist and other physicians with studies of brain waves for diagnoses of diseases and disorders of the brain through performance of standard electroencephalographic examinations. Demonstrate and assist to provide neurologists and other physicians with studies of electrical responses of sensory pathways of the nervous system to specific external stimuli.
Responsibilities
• Demonstrates and prepares patients for EEG, Evoked potentials, and EMG procedures, explaining test procedures. • Learn to select predetermined elecenterode combinations or special combinations made necessary by the case under study. • Position patient, applying elecenterodes to the predetermined, measured positions on the patient's head. • Demonstrates the ability to take readings and study wave characteristics, marking the graph accordingly for use by the physician. • Shows ability to detect and eliminate from consideration all artifacts of larger amplitude caused by activity. • Constant observation of the patient for any normal or abnormal behavior. • Record reactions to specific activities by utilizing activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep. • Monitor variables such as elecenteromyograms, elecenterocardiograms, elecenterooculograms, respirations, etc. when deemed necessary by circumstances at the EEG recording. • Stop the equipment on completion of testing, removing elecenterodes, and assist patient. • Abstract relevant information for use by the physician from the patient's clinical record, obtaining additional information by questioning the patient. • Properly clean and sterilize equipment within the department. • Maintain adequate laundry and supplies within the department. • Calculate and plot all wave forms from a graph (following Evoked potential testing) which is later examined and evaluated by a physician trained to read and interpret evoked potentials.
