Job Description
Patrick & Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution committed to student success, lifelong learning, and enrichment of the quality of life in the region it serves. Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, P&HCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick & Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.
Position Summary:
Patrick & Henry Community College is seeking a self-motivated professional and team player to serve as the Educational Talent Search Advisor. This position provides academic success, financial aid, college and career guidance to middle and high school students, forming working relationships with students, families, and stakeholders.
P&HCC Talent Search program intends to provide individual and group academic, college readiness, financial aid awareness and career exploration services to 500 participants each year. The students are selected from target high schools in Martinsville City, Henry and Patrick Counties.
The Talent Search Advisor provides academic success, financial aid, college and career guidance to middle and high school students, forming working relationships with students, families and stakeholders. This individual supervises students, oversees and leads Academic classes, provides direct instruction to participants, assists seniors in applying to colleges, provides financial aid guidance to students and families, and prepares and conducts value-clarification, decision making, and career exploration seminars. He/she publishes announcements, newsletters, and outreach materials, chaperones day and overnight trips, assists in recruiting and selection of students for the program and provides administrative support to the Director. Collects and reports data for program services.
Duties:
This position is funded through a grant and is contingent upon renewal of funding.
Salary: $32,000-$36,000 based on qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits package.
Minimum Qualifications Education, work experience, and/or training equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, Communications or related field.
KSA’s and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:
Preferred Qualifications Education, work experience, and/or training equivalent to a Master’s degree in Education, Human Services, Communications or related field.

Duties:
- Applies knowledge of educational pedagogy to recruit, and recommend students who meet program regulations.
- Advise and assist students with setting and attaining educational goals.
- Maintains accurate records, including confidential filing system for participant records and computerized participant database
- Plans, implements and facilitates workshops, activities and special events with students and/or parents.
- Develops program materials, flyers, brochures, and newsletters.
- Assists project director with public relations and training activities and serves on appropriate college committees and participates in meetings and special projects.
- Assists in and supports the development and implementation of program initiatives including grade appropriate curriculum, tutoring, and mentoring programs.
- Assists co-workers and mentors to ensure program success
