Posting SummaryRutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Educational Specialist (Oncology Nursing) for the Office of Human Research Services at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

The primary purpose of the Oncology Nurse Education Specialist is to support educational growth and development for a diverse staff while working closely with the management team of Nursing & Office of Human Research Services (OHRS) at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. This position will play a key role in all components of education, training and mentoring of clinical research staff in their mastery of cancer content with an emphasis on clinical trials. An ability to collaborate with others is key. In addition to being an integral part of the clinical research team, this position should demonstrate the ability to form and maintain professional relationships beyond Nursing & OHRS supporting the continuous learning needs of CINJ Oncology Group’s affiliates. Works with management to assure that all clinical research conducted within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey is according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines as well as applicable Institutional, State and Federal regulations and guidelines. In addition, this position is responsible for meeting the goals and objectives established by the management team.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for developing educational programs, curricula, courses and learning materials for clinical research staff.
  • Develops and coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
  • Develops and coordinates core education to address patient population specific nursing care and develops evidence-based educational materials.
  • Training and development of staff. Responds to day-to-day operations and concerns of newly hired staff and reports on progress of new staff member to supervisor, needed.
  • Serves as an educational consultant to staff within Nursing and OHRS and stakeholders across the Rutgers University community.
  • Supports nursing and OHRS departmental research activities.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field. Five (5) years of nursing experience, which shall include clinical educator or nursing instructor experience required.

  • The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, have excellent organizational skills, be proficient in computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Oncore™), possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to maximize resources and be resourceful.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed to practice nursing the in the State of New Jersey. BLS Certification required.
  • Two (2) years of oncology experience preferred. OCN certification preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment in addition to clinical setting, which may include exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Moderate noise.
