Position Summary:
The Emergency Department Technician functions within the department under the direction of the ED Physician and the ED Resource Nurse. The technician is responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies and providing patient care under the direct supervision of the medical and nursing staff.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/Equivalent
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Basic Life Support (BLS) and. Successful completion of EMT coursework, or successful completion of CNA coursework, or successful completion of at least one semester of nursing clinical experiences.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Excellent communication skills, self-motivation, strong organizational skills and customer service.
Essential Functions:
- Answers call lights and offers comfort measures to patients in coordination with nursing staff.
- Brings code cart to designated areas, provides cardiac compressions.
- Cleans and sends instruments for sterilization.
- Obtains supplies and equipment required for procedures.
- Documents appropriate data in patient chart when care is provided.
- Maintains all department equipment in a functional manner.
- Obtains daily supplies from CPD.
- Orders supplies and equipment from storeroom and specific vendors as needed.
- Performs wound irrigations, wound repair, wound dressings and surgical preps under the direct supervision of the physician.
- Prepares patient for transportation and transport.
- Removes sutures from well healed wounds under the direct supervision of the physician.
- Assists nursing staff with direct patient care within ED Tech scope
- Sutures wounds and applies splints under the direction and supervision of provider staff
- Facilitates patient throughput into and out of the department by assisting with triage, rooming and transfers
- Stocks linen and supplies in the ED
- Performs EKGs on all ED patients
