Employment type: Part Time; 25 hours/week; 10 months OR Full TimeClassification: Exempt Location(s): Boston, MA; Western MassAbout Childrens Literacy Initiative: Childrens Literacy Initiative is a 501(c)(3) non-profit; working with birth-5th grade teachers, that is committed to strengthening early childhood education and disrupting racism. Our goal is to provide Black and Latinx students with the high quality education they deserve. For 30 years, CLI has helped educators learn high-impact instructional strategies and nurture dynamic, sustainable professional learning communities so that children become powerful readers, writers, and thinkers. CLIs proven theory of action shows that when teachers receive the right combination and intensity of training and coaching, they can become exemplary instructors who make an impact in helping children not only achieve but become thoughtful, active citizens who will disrupt oppression in order to build a better world for all.

Our workshops and institutes build teachers understanding of early childhood development as well as the art and science of teaching children how to read, write, think and make meaning. By focusing on professional skills that improve over time and are not lost when administrations, buildings, or curricula change, CLI helps create a sustainable culture of continuous improvement that introduces students to the joys of reading, writing, and life-long learning. Position Summary: Childrens Literacy Initiative (CLI) is recruiting for Literacy Coaches who are committed to equitable and culturally responsive education, to be critical members of our Team!The role of literacy coach is a position of instructional leadership. CLIs Literacy Coaches provide one-on-one professional development coaching to PK-5 Teachers in various schools systems, throughout the country.

We are seeking experienced early childhood/elementary educators who are committed to ensuring that Black and Latinx students receive a high quality education. You should have experience implementing a range of early literacy best practices in PK-5 classrooms, a deep commitment to anti-racism and a passion for teaching & learning. While employees of CLI, Literacy Coaches work daily within a partner school where they are an integral part of their schools literacy strategy. Literacy Coaches work collaboratively with teachers to hone their craft and implement literacy strategies that are relevant, affirm teacher/child identity, build literacy skills and foster childrens intellect and criticality.Responsibilities Drive an instructional vision focused on foundational literacy skills developmentProvide teachers with coaching, modeling, and co-observations to improve and refine teaching practice Use teacher and student performance data to design, coordinate and facilitate professional development to increase teacher expertise Provide clear and direct feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice and track student and teacher progress to assess the effectiveness of coaching Develop teachers capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve student learning Deep commitment to anti-racism and educational equity and the building of an organization that reflects the community CLI serves; ability to hold self and others accountable for centering equity *Hours will vary depending on assigned schools hours of operation.

Average of 7.5 hrs./ day *The Literacy Coach will report directly to the Literacy Supervisor. Qualifications The successful candidate is motivated by our mission. print concepts, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, etc.) strongly preferredExpertise in assessing, preventing and overcoming early reading difficulties At least four years of successful teaching experience, preferably in urban setting(s) At least two years of successful coaching or leadership experience preferredCurrent on best practices in literacy A strong track record of facilitating teachers toward instructional improvementExperience designing and leading compelling and relevant professional development Excellent written and oral communicationAppropriate state level teacher certification Childrens Literacy Initiative is an Equal Opportunity Employer
