The Division for Statistical and Data Sciences (DSDS) is seeking an early career statistician with a master’s degree and SAS skills to work on projects in a variety of domains such as public health, health care, education and social science studies as well as sample survey and experimental designs and statistical research. Currently comprised of more than 125 statisticians and data scientists, DSDS is one of the largest and most comprehensive in private industry. RTI statisticians conduct cutting-edge research in survey and sample design, modeling, and statistical analysis. As a Statistician you would work in a variety of fields, including international health, governance, and education, as well as health services, economic and social development, education and training and the environment. This position requires the ability to work independently and as a member of a team to deliver high quality work. Eighty to ninety percent of daily work is at a computer, the remainder of the position-time would be in project planning meetings and conference calls.
Responsibilities- Provide statistically sound consultation on data collection, experimental design, and data analysis to meet project objectives.
- Assist in the preparation, presentation, and follow-up of research proposals by providing computer programming support, literature reviews, and analysis as well as writing sections of the technical proposals.
- Utilize standard statistical and/or data management software packages (e.g., SAS, R) to execute data processing and data analysis activities and to summarize and present findings.
- Manage large datasets; move and merge data files from different platforms (e.g., SQL, Excel, SAS); clean, aggregate data and perform quality control; evaluate/analyze and interpret data.
- Collaborate on the development and conduct of methodological research based on sound science, the analysis of the resulting research data, and on the creation of peer-reviewed manuscripts and technical presentations.
- Develop, document, and verify the correctness of original data processing or statistical programs in SAS or R to satisfy requests provided in varying levels of formality and detail
- Communicate the results of analyses verbally or in writing and solicit clarification or further detail at appropriate points in the analytic process
- Balance the programming and analytic needs of multiple projects simultaneously
- Conduct appropriate professional development and scientific stature efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Mathematics with at least 1 year experience in the degree area.
- Experience with SAS or R (SAS preferred). A sample of programming code is required.
- Demonstrated data manipulation, data editing, and data management skills.
- Effective skills in communication and team collaboration.
- Excellent writing skills as evidenced by cover letter and writing samples.
- To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with other statistical software is a plus (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS) and software such as Python, Linux/CRON.
- Experience in survey statistics and sampling design and in manipulating large, complex data systems
- Certification in SAS
