Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The primary purpose of this position is to provide driving services for the needs of residents as approved by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with ERS policies and procedures and applicable state motor vehicle laws.Position Purpose:Essential Functions/Accountabilities:FrequencyFunction
Daily Drives ERS vehicles on trips including, but not limited to, medical trips, grocery shopping, other shopping, pleasure trips, and ERS internal mail pick-up and delivery. All trips are scheduled by the Transportation Supervisor.
Daily Drives ERS vehicles (sedans and thirty passenger buses), utilizing safe driving practices including the observance of all state highway laws.
Daily Assists residents getting in and out of vehicles, maintaining safety procedures and ensuring resident clearance of closing doors. Performs proper wheelchair tie downs when applicable.
As needed Maintains the appearance of ERS vehicles by exterior and interior cleaning.
As needed Maintains ERS vehicles in excellent working condition by informing Transportation Supervisor when preventative maintenance is needed and when mechanical problems arise.
As needed Reports incidents/accidents to the police and the supervisor as soon as possible.

Ongoing Attends in-service education sessions and other meetings.
Ongoing Provides back-up to office personnel during absences, as assigned.
Ongoing Participates and assists in departmental studies and projects as directed and attends departmental and staff meetings as directed.

- Should possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. ODOT physical must be provided by an ERS approved provider.[1]
- Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language and speak the language in an understandable manner.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
- Must be able to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, and the general public and to work harmoniously with other staff members.
- Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on the maturity level at which they are functioning.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess adequate sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must be able to lift, move, or push an equivalence of fifty (50) or more pounds on a regular basis.
- Works in an outdoor environment while traveling in vehicle to and from scheduled trips and while providing service for the vehicle. Is subject to extremes in climate conditions.
- Sits, stands, bends, and moves about by walking intermittently during working hours.
- Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, and visitors under varied conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents.
- Works beyond normal working hours, and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
