The Domestic Tax Matters Specialist utilizes various systems and specialized expertise to prepare and file multi-jurisdiction tax returns in the U.S. Ensure the compliance of the Firm in Business Licensure across the U.S. Establish the integrity of the underlying financial statements through preparation of month-end journal entries and reconciliations.
Reporting duties may include but are not limited to:
Prepare and analyze different types of tax returns to include:
- Sales and Use Tax
- Withholding Tax
- Unemployment Tax
- Income Tax
- Collaborating with other departments, both internal and external, to ensure sales tax compliance
- Preparation and filing of employer W-2s with federal, state, and local tax agencies.
- Apply for new and renew business licenses for all jurisdictions in the U.S. that we are required to hold such licensure.
Ensuring compliance of the Firm by requesting Tax Clearance Certificates from various federal, state, and local tax agencies. - Special projects as assigned that could involve sales and use, withholding, unemployment, and income taxes.
Transactional and Analysis duties may include but are not limited to:
- Ensures accuracy and compliance with laws and standards by maintaining financial records through the preparation and review of journal entries.
- Reviews general ledger activity and prepares account reconciliations and work papers for various areas including sales tax, withholding tax, unemployment tax, and income taxes.
- Analyzing differences between accounting systems and reconciling those differences to ensure accurate tax return filing and payment.
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience – Required
- Accounting, Finance, or Business major - Preferred
TECHNICAL/SOFT SKILLS
- Proficient in Microsoft Office - Required
- Ability to communicate verbally and written - Required
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy - Required
- Ability to work autonomously and part of a team - Required
- Effective organization and time management skills - Required
- High level of confidentiality - Required
EXPERIENCE
- 1-2 years relevant experience - Preferred
- Previous sales & use tax experience - Preferred
- Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) andthe ability to use that knowledge to guide in decision making – Preferred
