Dog Trainer

This is a full time BALANCED dog training independent contract position. We are gearing up to open a daycare/training facility in the next year. Once that happens, you will have the opportunity to be hired on as a full time employee with standard salary and benefits, or you will have the opportunity to rent kennel space at the facility and run your own business, have your own pricing, etc. You can also opt to continue working from home as an independent contractor.

Must have experience and be ready to take on board and trains. Must be able to take on board and trains in your own home. If you are not obviously at the experience level required, there will be a training period in which you will be paid after services are complete, instead of up front. If you need training in certain areas to get up to speed, you will not be paid for those hours that you spend shadowing.

I did not list how many years experience on purpose. I have seen trainers who have 20 years experience be less knowledgable than a trainer with 1 year of experience. Your skills will be assessed by speaking with your references (please list 3) as well as a facetime interview. From there we will assess your abilities by having you work some dogs.

From there you will need to pass a drug test and background check. Marijuana will not disqualify candidates. Hard drugs and/or serious offenses will.

You will be paid:

$750 per week per dog for standard board and trains.

$1000 per week per dog for more serious behavior mod board and trains.

$100 per private lesson/consult

I am going to be very upfront with you. We are looking for candidates who are going to jive with our mission. Please get familiar with our instagram page @shadesofbludogtraining and how we do things (story highlights are a great way to see how we work). We are BALANCED trainers. So, if you are not comfortable using ecollars or prong collars, this is not the job for you. On the other hand, if you are too comfortable using those tools, and using them harshly or improperly, this is also NOT the job for you. If you don't primarily use positive reinforcement whenever possible, again, not the job for you.

We work hand in hand with our rescue, @woofgangrehab, and are also trying to build our staff for our service dog organization, @s.a.s.sdogs. As a trainer with Shades Of Blu Dog Training INC you will be expected to volunteer at our nonprofit organizations as needed. We are not looking for candidates who are not passionate about saving dogs, so if you are not willing to take on board and trains through the rescue with minimal compensation in addition to your paid board and trains like the rest of us, then again, this is not the job for you.

We also offer free group training classes to all of our clients. You will be required to teach classes (anywhere from 1-4 per month). The cost of these classes are included in our private lesson and board and train pricing, so you will not be further compensated for teaching group classes.

We are a veteran owned business. As such, veterans will be given priority in our selection process. Our mission through our service dog organization is to provide service dogs for female veterans who have suffered a sexual assault. As such, female candidates will also be given priority due to the sensitive nature of many of the cases we will be handling as the organization develops further.

Please keep in mind that the first few months of employment with us may be slow. We are currently booked solid for board and trains through August. All new inquiries for board and trains will be directed to our new hire. We are not going to continue advertising until we find at least one new hire, because we can't promise clients board and trains without having the space secure. That is why there will be a bit of a lag before you start getting clients. To give you an idea of how quickly we fill up - we put out minimal advertisements two weeks ago about available board and train dates and have received deposits for 20 spots already.
