Director, Software Development (User Applications)

The Director of Software Development for User Applications leads the development of Zonar’s key end-user applications in the Product Development organization. These products support the drivers and operators of freight, vocational and transportation vehicles; and the back-end solutions to support them. Zonar’s products focus on creating a safe, compliant, and efficient environment for our roads and drivers and our platforms expand into a data solution for our customers and partners.

This role will report directly to the SVP of Software and will be a key member in the leadership of software development in Zonar Systems. This position requires a highly motivated individual who is customer oriented, results driven, and passionate about delivering innovative quality services to delight our customers. The ideal candidate is solution oriented, has a high bias for data driven action, and works well in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment – comfort in managing ambiguity and changing priorities is key to success. As a Director with technical depth, you will both be able to dive into details and to step back to lead, and build, a talented group of software engineers.

• Build and develop a team of dedicated and talented software engineers and managers with varying levels or experience.
• Use your extensive experience building and supporting large scale web and mobile applications to ensure the best architectural, implementation, and operational approaches are being taken
• Bring systems and operational thinking to the overall Zonar portfolio, building world-class dev-ops teams that can be used as examples with the Continental global engineering organization
• Collaborate closely with product and program management to define product strategy and roadmap
• Communicate clearly and concisely, by written and spoken word, to developers, managers, and leaders within the organization
• Work across disciplines to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality web and mobile applications to meet that roadmap
• Drive software development methodologies that ensure our teams build scalable, resilient, reliable software while improving efficiency, effectiveness, and throughput

• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in software development
• 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with relevant technologies such as Java, C/C++, PHP, Obj-C, Swift, and/or Python
• Experience delivering applications on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, preferably with a micro-services architecture
• Familiarity with PaaS/CaaS frameworks, e.g. Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes
• Experience defining and building RESTful APIs
• Experience with SQL and NOSQL databases, e.g., PostgreSQL, Cassandra
• 5+ years of experience managing managers as direct reports and influencing teams in a matrixed environment
• Proven ability to lead and inspire multiple teams to deliver a diverse set of applications and services
• Experience in designing and building large scale systems and the evolution of these systems over time
• Passionate orientation and attention to customer satisfaction.
• A progressive history of finding solutions and making prioritization and planning choices on an organizational scale
• Familiarity and proven success and trials with Scrum and/or Kanban
• Experience managing multiple products to SLIs, SLOs and instilling and operational mindset
• Delivering to external release schedules
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• GIS (Geographical Information Systems) experience a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
