Job Description

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree
  • 7+ years of prior Security/Safety or law enforcement management experience required.
  • 3-4 years management experience required.
  • State of Illinois 20 hour Basic Security Officer Course - Must have at time of hire.
  • Certified in MOAB Verbal De-escalation, or within 30 days of hire.
  • Certified in PPCT Defensive Tactics, or within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid State of Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
  • IAHSS healthcare security officer certification at advanced or supervisory.
  • Possess valid driver's license.
  • Investigative skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite software.
  • Working knowledge of security systems, including video surveillance, access control, security alarms, and infant/pediatric abduction alarms.
  • Self-directed, minimal supervision required.
  • Expertise in operations improvement.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Political sensitivity to interplay between system and sites.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • On call twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days a week.
  • Must be willing to carry a pager and/or radio.
  • Must be able to work any shift.
  • Requires local travel to attend meetings and conferences.


Purpose:
A Director of Public Safety is responsible for the implementation of Security and Public Safety Department initiatives, programs, and activities within the assigned region including at multiple hospital campuses, medical offices and office buildings. This includes planning and implementing security projects, budget development, tracking and variance analysis, and monitoring the performance and compliance of Public Safety Departments. The position will be the single point of contact for developing, reviewing and updating all security technology, applications, and intranet sites. The individual will report to the Vice President of Security Services to achieve organizational goals, identify cost reduction opportunities and strategies, and ensure implementation. A Director will embody the values of Advocate including: compassion, equality, excellence, partnership and stewardship. In addition, this position will assist in developing and achieving KRA goals.

Accountabilities:

  • Directs Public Safety Operations in support of the Vice President for Security Services. Monitors the physical security, public safety, and parking programs across all types of Advocate operating units and sites in the region. Responsible for development and improvement of standards, process improvement, budgeting and cost reductions, quality control measures, customer relations, associate development, and training. Responsible for planning and direction of overall department activities to ensure provision of quality patient care and clinical outcomes within a safe, efficient and desirable environment.
  • Promotes the vision of the Security Services Department. Ensures requirements are understood, supervised, and accomplished. Demonstrates commitment to the vision and a spirit of enthusiasm for achieving its goals. Translates the vision for staff and encourage their engagement. Collaborates and communicates across the assigned sites and between team members and ensures that the team achieves stated goals and objectives.
  • Directs the development and training of Public Safety and Parking teams that are committed to the values of Advocate Health Care and prepared to perform their duties in an exemplary manner.
  • Leads change. Identifies needs, drives change, and addresses concerns. Implements key strategic initiatives by developing implementation plans, monitoring progress, and achieving goals.
