Aon is looking for a Director, Quality of Intellectual Property Operations
As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results for our clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions as part of our New Ventures Business.
Your impact as a Director, Quality of Intellectual Property Operations
Aon’s Quality of Intellectual Property report is a revolutionary new product that maps patents and other intellectual property (IP) to business products and revenue lines in the M&A process—sell-side, buy-side, and even pre-deal. To our knowledge, it is the first product of its kind to enable: (a) M&A sellers with distinctive IP to get a premium for those assets; (b) M&A buyers to uncover new business value and avoid latent IP risk; and (c) a competitive advantage for investment banks in getting new deals. The Director of QoIP Operations will focus single-mindedly on (a) scaling this product to a large number of M&A deals (with initial emphasis on sell-side QoIP) and (b) executing deals, coordinating QoIP operations, analytics, and writing the actual narrative portions of the report; overall consistently ensuring client success—along with positive feedback loops with business partners, influencers, and internal Aon networks. The best part of this job is helping great companies and innovators achieve massive success, during one of the most important stages of the business lifecycle. Your job will be to connect finance, law/IP, and business. It’s a fantastic opportunity for an entrepreneurial go getter with an analytical bent and a client centric worldview. You will be backed by roughly 150 IP specialists, an advanced technology stack, former investment bankers and heads of IP at top 5 corporations, and a broad range of Aon institutional relationships across M&A, finance, and law. However, you will be calling the plays.
Job Responsibilities:
- Help prospect clients (marketing analytics) and develop world class IP business development decks in real time, helping senior business leaders close new deals—from soup to nuts.
- Gather and synthesize select data on (a) patent assets as well as (b) IP litigation in advance of meetings, frequently under extremely tight deadlines, both for individual clients and entire portfolios of private equity clients.
- Manage sales scaling processes, from marketing, to closing, to strong relationship building that generate repeat business.
- Execute: Seamlessly coordinate all inputs to QoIP reports (particularly the analytic team producing technical assessments, core analysis, and catalogues of different IP assets), write high quality narrative sections of the 30-50 page report, write and perfect interim contributions to the investment banking team and the CIM, etc. This is the most important part of the job: ensuring client success.
- Feedback product and process improvements to management for incorporation into the QoIP playbook and report template.
You Bring Knowledge and Expertise
- M&A Experience: Substantial investment banking and/or legal M&A experience and success. The ability to communicate and manage client expectations, IP issues, etc., customizing language and communication style to recipient. Candidate will need to not only coordinate, but lead calls with CEOs, CTOs, senior investment bankers, IP heads, legal counsel, etc.
- IP Experience: Experience and successful track record in (i) the intellectual property field, and/or (ii) high technology and industrials M&A, involving significant IP.
- Minimum educational requirement: Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study.
- Proven ability to scale M&A and/or technology driven solutions desired.
- The candidate should be highly detail oriented and be able to execute complex processes from beginning to end, successfully coordinating a large number of different people and variables—both within and without the deal team/client/investment banks, and beyond—all in deal time. This person must be able to personally write and proof QoIP sell side and other reports—integrating complex technical, IP, and business data into a seamless enterprise M&A narrative
