Job Description

Our Dialysis Center in Monrovia is looking for a Director of Nursing to join the team.

The schedule will be Monday- Friday 8 hour days.

I. Function:

  • The Director of Nurses is responsible for assigned administrative tasks under the supervision of the Unit Coordinator and assumes full responsibility for the dialysis facility in the absence of Unit Coordinator. The Director of Nurses is directly responsible to the Unit Coordinator and Medical Director. The Director of Nurses may serve as Chief Executive Officer Alternate, if appointed.

II. Qualifications:
__
**a. Current CA license to practice as a registered professional nurse.
b. Three years experience as a R.N. with a minimum of one year in the Dialysis Field.
c. Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing.
d. Bachelor Degree preferred.
e. General preparation in unit management.
f. Demonstrated competence as a dialysis nurse. (Special training in both theory and practice of dialysis, with a minimum of 3 years as an R.N. practicing.)
g. Demonstrated commitment to continued professional growth.
h. Maintains current CPR, preferably ACLS.
i. Satisfactory professional references.

III. Duties and Responsibilities:

**If the Director of Nurses is also appointed Chief Executive Officer Alternate, the responsibilities of that position shall apply in addition to those listed below

a. Assist the Unit Coordinator to recruit, train, develop and supervise all nursing personnel as assigned.

b. Assist in implementing and ensuring adherence to the established policies and procedures of the facility.

c. Based on the staffing pattern established by the Unit Coordinator, prepares and revises staff schedules as needed.

d. Based on planning with the Unit Coordinator and Medical Director, prepares and revises patient schedules as needed, assuring timely acceptance of patients.

e. Maintains and submits in a timely manner all required records and reports in the absence of Unit Coordinator. May be assigned continuing responsibility for the performance and documentation of routine facility assignments such as preventive maintenance and lab work under the supervision of the Unit Coordinator.

f. Attends all staff meetings and team patient care planning meetings. Participates in developing and providing inservice education to staff.

g. Assists the Unit Coordinator in monitoring the physical environment, equipment's, and supplies.

h. Continues to perform all the duties and responsibilities of Charge Nurse on assigned shifts and supervises the performance of other Charge Nurses and personnel in the absence of the Unit Coordinator.

i. Knowledge in cleaning, sterilizing of dialyzers for reuse.

j. Document in the medial record an initial assessment of each patient and at least monthly progress notes which reflect all nursing care provided. These shall include identification of current problems, goals and actions planned to achieve goals, and an evaluation of patient progress.

k. Assists in Quality Assurance studies and investigations relating to improving patient care.

l. Coordinates the activities of other professional personnel such as the Dietitian and Social Worker.

m. Complete and submit several records and reports on a periodic or one time only basis. These include, but will not be limited to, the following

1.ESRD Medical Information System

-Patient History and Treatment Form
-Death Notification
-Annual Facility Survey
-One time surveys related to specific topics such as staffing

2. ESRD Network
-Required Medical Review Board Studies
-Planning, utilization and other date required for administration of the Network.
