Director of Landscape Maintenance

Location
Dataw Island is a truly magnificent 870 acre gated residential community located just outside the antebellum town of Beaufort, SC. Selected by Southern Living Magazine as the “Best Small Southern Town,” Beaufort is approximately 1 hour away from Savannah and a little over 2 hours from Charleston, SC. Facilities
Dataw Island is a private, secluded sea island located 6 miles outside of historic Beaufort, SC. Dataw Island has two 18-hole championship golf courses designed by Tom Fazio and Arthur Hills. Few private country club communities can boast of such an ideal location and two championship golf courses. Dataw Island is designated an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International. Dataw Island Club has a very active golf membership and over 47,000 rounds are played per year. There are approximately 900 club members. The majority of the membership is retired. The elegant 40,000 square foot clubhouse contains formal and informal dining areas and a golf pro shop. Additional facilities include practice facility and putting green, 8 Har-Tru Tennis Courts, tennis pro shop, snack facility, swimming pool, 2 croquet courts and miles of leisure trails. The freestanding 16,000 square foot Community Center offers a state-of-the-art fitness and activity center with an indoor pool and spa, fitness room, aerobic studio, conference room, massage facilities and arts and crafts studio. Dataw Island’s mission is to maintain and enhance the infrastructures and ecological ambiance of the common property. The common grounds include roadways, hiking paths, drainage, bridges, common docks, ponds, historic ruins, dog park and community garden. Particular attention is given to horticulture upkeep improvements and beautification in all areas. Infrastructure project management is a critical success factor as well.
Qualifications and Job Duties
Dataw Island is seeking an experienced Director of Landscape Maintenance to oversee all landscape maintenance activities associated with common grounds areas on Dataw Island. This position will plan, organize, and direct landscape personnel and contractors to ensure a high-quality presentation on Dataw Island. Responsibilities also include departmental budgeting and goals; inspections of roads and drains; and monitoring stormwater overflow. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years’ landscape experience to include lawn maintenance, garden care, turf care, landscape construction, tree care and irrigation care. This position requires knowledge of fertilization applications and must maintain a Class 3 Pesticide License. Degree in Horticulture a plus. Candidates must be comfortable managing a tenured crew of staff members and regularly speaking with residents about ongoing projects and requests.
Salary
A compensation package will include a base salary commensurable with experience and qualifications. The Club has a comprehensive benefits package including health and dental insurance, vacation and personal time off and an excellent 401(k) plan.
