Job Description
Overview
The Director of Equal Opportunity Compliance and Title IX Coordinator serves in a highly visible key leadership role and is responsible for development, delivery and oversight of initiatives related to preventing and providing redress for unfair treatment based on legally protected characteristics for Lawrence University students, faculty and staff. This position supports the University’s efforts to provide an equitable, diverse and inclusive environment in which to work and learn by supporting the prompt and appropriate response to reports of harassment and discrimination including those related to Title IX and other applicable laws, policies or regulations. The Coordinator reports to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The duties and responsibilities that are delegated to the Director of Equal Opportunity Compliance and Title IX Coordinator include compliance efforts inclusive of, but not limited to:
  • Education
  • Training and Programming related to the focus areas of equal opportunity, non-discrimination and Title IX
  • Consultation, Investigation, and Disposition
  • Diversity Related Institutional Monitoring and Compliance Assurance
  • Advising the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and other University Officials
  • Policy Development, Enforcement, and Correction

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the University’s response and prevention efforts for Title IX in partnership with SHARE by managing the preparation and dissemination of educational materials that inform the campus community of Title IX rights and responsibilities
  • Coordinate training for campus constituents about their rights and responsibilities under Title IX and the grievance procedures
  • Oversee university Title IX grievance procedures
  • Monitors compliance of all requirements and time-lines specified in related grievance procedures.
  • Advances non-discrimination policies by collaborating with department staff to develop and implement strategies to eliminate identified barriers and problems
  • May receive internal and external allegations/complaints of illegal discrimination and in collaboration with Human Resources and University Counsel facilitates the investigation and resolution of cases.
  • Acts as an independent reviewer and evaluator to ensure that diversity related compliance issues/concerns are being appropriately investigated and resolved.
  • Oversees informal and formal diversity related compliance reviews of established standards with identified offices and/or officials; verifies status of compliance activities and identifies trends; monitors progress of activities.
  • Direct compliance issues identified through reviews to appropriate channels for correction. Consults with General Counsel to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
  • Identifies potential areas of diversity related compliance vulnerability and risk; develops and supports corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Develop and implement campus training/education related to applicable subject areas. Coordinate online training related to diversity.

Working Relationships
In addition to collaborating with the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Coordinator will interact will all members of the campus community. As needed, will consult and collaborate with University or external Counsel to ensure consistent application of policies.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, experience in compliance and/or higher education administration required
  • J.D. or graduate degree in a related field desirable
  • Minimum three years of experience; strong knowledge of Title IX, nondiscrimination, equal opportunity and other applicable laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of and experience in the resolution of issues related to gender-based harassment and discrimination
  • Knowledge of and experience in the resolution of issues related to preventing unfair treatment based on legally protected classifications
  • Ability to manage simultaneous complex and time sensitive tasks with accuracy while maintaining appropriate records and adherence to established procedures
  • Experience in creation and delivery of programming designed to create positive culture change in a higher education environment
  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of constituencies
