Job Purpose:
Lead, direct and manage the Agency’s revenue generation activities focused mainly on Central Ohio but may be assigned to other areas across the state as needed. This position will own a targeted portfolio of donors and engage around impact, provide leadership for, and have oversight responsibility for assigned regional advisory board(s). The Director of Development will work independently and in collaboration with internal and external partners, using a relationship-based model of fundraising.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies and targeted efforts to secure ongoing funding for CHA, leveraging Board members, partners, community leaders, and others, as necessary.
- Expand resources and raise funds for operations.
- Manage relationships with corporate and individual donors; and help provide fiduciary accountability of funds.
- Support and assist the Regional Board(s) in the identification and recruitment of Board members; orientation; developing and informing the Board of Agency programs and fundraising efforts; planning Board meetings; including determination of agenda items for meetings, timely distribution of meeting materials, communicating with members.
- Assist with funding requests, vetting of grant requests and other program correspondence/reports.
- Build and strengthen Agency presence and effectiveness via relationship building, community outreach, partnerships, etc. and utilize these relationships to enhance brand awareness among new and existing stakeholders.
- Promote, reinforce, and build positive understanding of CHA.
- Assist in marketing the Agency’s programs, while engaging Board members, staff, corporate and community partners and others in development related initiatives.
- Direct and manage operations, ensuring Agency policies and procedures are adhered to, and all work is in alignment with the Agency’s mission.
- Collaborate with the VP to determine strategies and cultivation activities for current and prospective donors, including engagement opportunities to build rapport leading to financial support.
- Utilize Raiser’s Edge database for all aspects of portfolio management including timely, accurate and thorough documentation, call reports, projection entries, asks and recording of actions taken with all donors and prospects.
- Work with Director of Marketing and Communications along with other development staff to ensure development materials are compelling, complete, and current.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of Children’s Hunger Alliance programs and keep abreast of related issues in the field, by among other things, taking advantage of opportunities to interact with colleagues, boards, volunteers, and other external stakeholders, as applicable.
- Follow a relationship-based fundraising approach to engage with prospects in assigned portfolio:
- Conduct prospect research to determine strategy
- Plan and strategize around prospect predisposition and visits, including engaging other members of the organization as needed.
- Meet with prospects, build relationships, and make case for support requests, sometimes leading, and sometimes supporting.
- Manage prospect follow-up activities, coordinating with the team as needed.
- Establish strong relationships with fellow staff, members of the regional boards, major donors and partners of Children’s Hunger Alliance.
- Be a positive face and presence of Children’s Hunger Alliance, representing the organization at events, conferences, and other speaking engagements.

Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 4-5 years in fundraising, public relations/marketing or sales and management
- Proven track record of securing philanthropic funds or sales from diverse sources
- Strong work ethic with agility in moving successfully between an independent and teamwork environment
- Experience in business development, sales, relationship building, contract management and special events
- Knowledge of funding sources and existing connections to the philanthropic community
- Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes and results-oriented culture
- Excellent public speaking skills and strong writing ability
- Interpersonal, supervision, administration, and management skills
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Familiarity with donor tracking systems – Raisers Edge preferred
- Capacity to work with diverse groups of people
- Sound judgment, professionalism, unflappable and a positive attitude
- Resourcefulness, resilience, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills
