Job Description
UCLA, as one of the premier providers of modern medicine to the Los Angeles area and the nation, is home to leading medical facilities and world-renowned physicians. More than 200 of UCLA's physicians are listed among the "Best Doctors in America," while the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is currently ranked the #1 hospital in California and #4 in the nation according to US News and World Report. The mission of UCLA Neuroscience, one of six major research themes within UCLA Health Sciences, is to develop and foster visible concentrations of excellence in basic and interdisciplinary neuroscience at UCLA. Driving these efforts within UCLA Health System's enterprise is the ability to raise funds and keep vital research and initiatives in motion.

As a campus-wide initiative, the UCLA Grand Challenges connects faculty, students and supporters from all disciplines, working together to solve critical issues. Those leading the Grand Challenges take a holistic approach to research, bringing passionate participants together to dream big and think about what can be achieved with sights set on common goals. As an integral part of UCLA Neuroscience, the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge (DGC) aims to cut the burden of depression in half by 2050. Central to this goal is the ability to understand the causes and trajectories of depression and to create and deliver novel evidence-based treatments to those impacted by depression. Since its inception in 2015, the DGC has made significant progress toward its goals of 1) identifying the genetic, biological, cognitive, social, and environmental factors associated with depression, and 2) developing innovative treatment strategies that have been piloted in the UCLA campus community and now are being made available more broadly. Driving these efforts for both the Depression Grand Challenge and UCLA Neuroscience is the ability to raise funds that keep vital research for these initiatives in motion.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Health Sciences Development, the Director of Development, Depression Grand Challenge and Neuroscience will help plan and implement a fund-raising program to increase support for all elements of UCLA Neuroscience, including the Depression Grand Challenge. This individual will assist with major gift fund raising, proposal writing, and working with faculty, administrators, and volunteers. The Director will personally identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects with a focus on building diversity in their donor portfolio where possible. This individual will also work with volunteer and/or advisory boards in support of fundraising programs and initiatives. In addition, the Director will also assist in the design and implementation of gift strategies and integrate efforts, maintaining close working relationships with the Depression Grand Challenge Executive Committee and other related volunteers to the Neuroscience Theme.
