Paragon Genomics is a fast-growing life sciences company developing advanced reagents and assay kits for next-generation sequencing (NGS). To support our rapid growth, we are seeking a full-time Director of Bioinformatics to join our growing team. This director is both a scientific/technology mentor and a hands-on leader. In this position, you will be a key member of the executive team and responsible for all aspects of software development for Paragon Genomics’ Bioinformatics products, including staffing and managing the software development team, driving team culture, best practices, collaboration with the content, marketing, and support teams, and directing the strategy and product path of our NGS business. You should have experience managing agile teams in a continuous integration environment, building multiple software products on a shared, modular platform, and delivering sophisticated products with high quality and predictable schedules. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the potential of next-generation sequencing custom panel design, data analysis, computation and visualization of complex scientific data, knowledge extraction/management, building simple but elegant software solutions, and delivering customer-centric products. Leadership, communication, prioritization, and a focus on excellence are essential characteristics for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership:
- Vision for growing the business and exceeding customer requirements in bioinformatics.
- Technical leadership – an expert in bioinformatics weighing in on NGS and genomics.
- Inspire, mentor, develop, and manage a team.
- Ensure and maintain scientific rigor and quality.
- Efficient collaboration to support:
- Internal – R&D, sales and marketing
- External – collaborators and customers
- Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver high impact presentations:
- Internally for efficient collaboration and product development
- Externally (conferences, publications, patents)
Qualifications
- MS or Ph.D. in relevant biological fields
- Technical expertise consisting of 5 years of NGS-related bioinformatics experience with targeted sequencing; 3 years of leadership. Demonstrating increasing responsibilities and contributions.
- Programming languages and software proficiency:
- Demonstrated expertise with at least one language (Python, Perl, Shell Scripting, R, C++)
- Experience with custom software development
- Familiarity with parallel computing, database, and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Hands-on experience with Git
- Hands-on experience with analysis pipeline development.
- RNA-seq/fusion assay development experience
- Self-driven, with the desire to build the best products in the world
- Flexible working hours
