The Director of Finance for the Nursing and Medical Education & Practice segments partners with executives and senior leaders within finance, the business segments, publishing, marketing, sales and operations to achieve financial targets and support business expansion efforts by providing key financial and strategic decision-making guidance. He or She will drive key financial processes and initiatives including business development, forecasting, budgeting, multi-year strategic planning, and project management. In addition to providing strategic support for growing the business, the Director is responsible for managing a team of six Finance professionals and reports to the CFO of the HLRP business unit.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Finance leader for the business segments: Nursing Education, Nursing Practice, and Medical Education & Practice with combined revenue of over $200 million, driving sales and revenue performance as well as profitability of the segments (gross margin) • Drives improved financial performance for a diverse print and digital business that publishes in the fields of Medicine and Nursing, to both practitioners and students, with over 4000 active products, by providing proactive analytical support and guidance through an understanding of the business and how that translates into financial results • Builds and provides oversight for budgets, forecasts, multi-year strategic plans and reporting with analysis and recommendations for identifying risks and opportunities based on a deep understanding of business operations, drivers of success, competitive knowledge and alignment with WK goals, objectives and values.
Spearhead projects that continue the improvement and development of our back-office and support systems, applying smart and innovative technology solutions to drive efficiencies
• Partners with key leaders across the business segments to ensure financial results are accurately reported and analyzed so strategic decisions are made within the context of financial objectives and performance
• Provides proactive business partner support in communicating financial and business objectives to external customers
• Partners with publishing, operations, legal, tax, internal and external audit and accounting to provide guidance and oversight in the drafting and negotiating of legal agreements and to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Collaborates with the Director of International Finance & Operations for global channel management across the different business segments
• Provides financial support in the exploration and development of new products
• Collaborates with the central accounting organization to ensure all revenue and costs are properly accounted for and reserves are adequately funded
• Leads and develops a professional team of six with direct and indirect oversight. Provides guidance and leadership to facilitate continued performance, promote teamwork and best practices, achieve personal growth opportunities, embody corporate values and drive a strong sense of accountability.
• Leads or participates in key initiatives and meetings with senior leadership and/or executive teams including monthly business reviews with presentation ownership
• Acts as the central point for the Professional and Education sales channel that spans the Nursing and Medicine lines of business to develop budgets, forecasts and presentation materials
Qualifications:
Education : Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting or equivalent experience years of experience
Experience : The equivalent of 10 years of business, finance, or management experience.
