Position Summary:
Public Health Solutions (PHS) is seeking a highly motivated, strategic and passionate Development Director to build and manage major gifts, corporate supporters and foundations to support PHS’ services and innovations around health equity in New York City.
The Director will develop giving strategies to grow PHS’ donors and revenue, provide ongoing and proactive relationship management, and lead targeted outreach, cultivation and stewardship. The Director will build a sustainable annual giving program, create and manage donor engagements and live- and virtual-events, identify new individual and corporate prospects who can become major gift donors, and support the organization in long-term revenue growth.
This position reports to the VP of Development and Marketing and will work closely with the President/CEO and Board of Directors in securing funds for PHS by identifying new prospects, and assuring strong donor engagement, retention and enhanced giving. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and results-oriented relationship manager and fundraiser who is excited about PHS’ mission and energized by teamwork, new ideas and thinking out of the box.
Specifically, the Director of Development will:
- Lead the creation of a development program that grows PHS’ donor base, increases major gifts, and assembles a multi-tiered strategy to increase unrestricted net revenue by at least 20 percent year after year.
- Build and manage a corporate giving strategy that solicits and stewards philanthropic support via employee giving, sponsorships and corporate foundations.
- Work with VP of Development and Marketing and grant writer to create a robust private foundation giving program to support new opportunities that advance PHS’ work.
- Consistently engage with PHS’ on-the-ground services in order to create inspiring donor appeals, targeted messaging and motivational content.
- Identify and implement new donor relations opportunities involving the President and CEO to cultivate larger gifts and advance Board development.
- Manage a Development Coordinator in the creation and execution of virtual and live fundraisers, prospect research, Raiser’s Edge documentation and management, gift processing and vendor invoicing.
- Apply best-in-practice development strategies to all development work including, but not limited to, annual goal setting, donor segmentation, moves management, and social media marketing.
- Work closely with a team of marketing, social media and communications experts to collectively create new ideas and think through strategies to grow financial support and awareness for PHS.
- Manage all office systems related to Development, including maintaining updated donor files, tracking spreadsheets, correspondence and gift acknowledgments, and upkeep of department policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of development experience with progressively increasing responsibility.
- 3-4 years of frontline major gift experience with demonstrated ability to grow a donor prospect base and successfully close major individual and corporate gifts.
- Desire to reach aggressive fundraising goals, and the ability to independently solicit and secure private gifts.
- Ability to conceptualize and describe funding needs in a way that is compelling to prospects, donors, board, and other stakeholders.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
- Results-oriented self-starter who has a passion for fundraising and helping New Yorkers in need.
- An understanding of public health and/or social services and ability to communicate the mission of PHS.
- Experience working with foundations is preferred.
