Location/Division Specific Information

Pharma Services is a $3B operating unit providing comprehensive services from development to commercial for small and large molecules in drug product and drug substance. This role leads business development for Drug Product Division North America - West and Central Region. The position is based remotely in the West or Central U.S. region.

How will you make an impact?

The Director, Business Development will have a multi-faceted role in our organization leading the North American Drug Product sales team with responsibility for driving organizational growth. In addition, this role serves as the key liaison with the Thermo Fisher Bio Production organization to identify synergies and execute joint strategies and initiatives. This role will be part of the global Pharma Services Sales Leadership Team.

What will you do?

  • Lead an Americas West sales team through role model leadership, proactive performance management and coaching, and focused engagement to attract, retain and develop talent
  • Facilitate employee development including defining annual goals, objectives within assigned territories and targets, and career development activities
  • Work closely with Marketing and the business unit leadership to determine adequate and robust marketing actions to support sales.
  • Liaise with Commercial Operations Lead of the business unit to determine execution of tactics related to strategy
  • Liaise and advise Leader of the business unit to determine strategic direction
  • Ensure active pipeline management including targeted prospecting activities in conjunction with marketing lead generation programs and development of new business including identification of opportunities with new clients through interaction with other PSG teams and following up on leads
  • Create and execute sales programs for new prospective clients to increase awareness of Pharma Services offerings and key differentiators from our competition
  • Identify and present Pharma Services’ value proposition, including opportunities for strategic cross selling of PSG services.
  • Enable winning quotations and agreements with new and existing customer
  • Provide oversight of accurate quarterly revenue forecasts and budget related to new business at each customer and take strategic action.
  • Work with Sites to achieve excellent customer satisfaction
  • Manage the team to enable compliance with all relevant activities in the SalesForce.com database, and share information and background on prospective clients within the territory to stakeholders
  • Provide input into strategic initiatives including integrated and cross selling and potential M&A.

How will you get here?

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as micro-biology, cellular biology, and chemistry. MBA and/or Advance Science Degree, preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership in coaching, mentoring, or leading teams
  • 10+ years’ experience in sales with a proven track record in sales including demonstrated consistent above plan performance.
  • Leadership experience in an aggressively growing business climate. Established contacts in major pharmaceutical organizations

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to lead a diverse team across multiple territories
  • Professional presentation skills and ability to network, consult and influence senior leaders – demonstrates executive presence
  • Strong understanding of biologics, including but not limited to vaccines, blood, or blood components, allergenics, somatic cells, gene therapies, tissues, recombinant therapeutic protein, and living cells used in cell therapy.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage short term deliverables concurrent with longer-term strategic milestones
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required, at 50% of time.
