Position Summary

Founded in 1993, Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy has established itself as one of the premier nonpartisan public policy think tanks in the country. As an integral part of Rice University, the Baker Institute has a strong track record of achievement based on the work of its fellows, scholars, Rice faculty scholars and staff. The institute collaborates with experts from academia, government, the media, business, and nongovernmental and private organizations.

Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy is seeking a digital content specialist to develop and review content for the institute’s website and digital communications. Under the supervision of the institute’s editorial director, the digital content specialist will work closely with the institute’s administrative and research staff to write, edit, curate and/or publish content, including graphics, for institute web pages, event invites, blogs, and social media posts.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience developing and publishing a variety of digital communication and marketing materials.

  • One or more years of experience managing digital content for a university or research organization
  • Experience with online software applications including Blackbaud CRM/Blackbaud Internet Solutions, Wordpress, Tableau, Adobe Creative Cloud, Sprout and Asana

Internal: Will have frequent contact with all institute researchers as well as the Baker Institute administrative staff

External: Will have occasional contact with partner organizations, guests and donors



Physical Demands

Requires working in front of a computer for extended periods of time (up to eight hours per day).

Essential Functions
  • Participates in the development of the digital communication and brand strategy for a program(s), department or unit
  • Writes, designs, and assists with the production of digital communication and marketing materials
  • Assists in building and/or maintaining a digital community through social media channels, blogs and the web
  • Assists in the design, development and management of web-ready graphics and web pages
  • Drafts content used to engage constituents and grow channels
  • Participates in the development of the digital communication and brand strategy for the Baker Institute
  • Curates content for the institute’s welcome kiosk and other digital displays in Baker Hall
  • Implements social listening efforts and reports back to management
  • Provides customer service to constituents across digital channels
  • Represents the organization to constituents
  • Compiles data, analyzes and reports metrics
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
