Job Description
Job Summary
The main function of the Diet Office Clerk is to take patient calls who are ordering meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks. This position will also perform clerical duties relating to clinical nutrition for our patients and residents as well as focusing on menu correction and process all incoming calls to the diet office. The Diet Office Clerk will be under supervision of a Clinical Dietitian.

Core Job Responsibilities
1 Prepares dietary information for use by kitchen personnel in preparation of foods for hospital patients.
2 Examines diet orders and menus received from hospital units and tallies portions and foods of general soft diets.
3 Tallies quantities of specific foods, such as vegetables and meats, to be prepared in the kitchen; marks tallies on master menu to inform kitchen personnel of food requirements.
4 Processes new diets and changes as required; may calculate diabetic diets , using calculator, and following standards established by clincial dietician
5 May answer telephone and intercom calls and relay information to kitchen concerning meal changes, complaints, or patient discharge.
6 May prepare and deliver formula and special nourishments to unit pantries.
7 Assists the Clinical Dietitian with performance improvement activities as assigned.
8 Communicates patient needs to appropriate staff while maintaining patient confidentiality.
