- Develop and execute pack/module/thermal design/development for Lithium-ion battery systems.
- Design and develop pack/module/thermal components by properly understanding the customer and/or emerging R&D requirements.
- Support design of pack/module/thermal of the battery system to maintain project-level development timing.
- Develop design to ensure serviceability, manufacturability, and other performance attributes for battery packs and modules.
- Provide regular status reports to management, customer, and team members.
- Work with BMS development part, systems engineering, and current production team members within LG Chem.
- Support/lead technical discussions and decisions with battery components suppliers.
- Assist in developing technology roadmap and best practices for LG Chem
- Ensure homogenous design and development for battery modules/packs in close collaborations with cell team and parts suppliers.
- Release BOMs through the internal PLM system to cascade to international manufacturing facilities.
- Support Technical Design Reviews for assigned projects within LG Chem, affiliated companies, and customers.
- Develop detailed component design based on the RFQ concept.
- Ensure design compliance with internal/customer requirements (cost, mass, and performance).
- Support the development of the pack/module DFMEA.
- Support the prototype/production issue resolution process with the manufacturing team.
- Support the project-specific change management process.
- Develop the datum and locating scheme for pack/module components.
- Conduct 1D stack-ups and assign tolerances.
- Define critical/significant characteristics for pack/module components.
- Support the PPAP process.
- Support lessons learned for all mechanical issues to prevent reoccurrence and drive continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities for commonization of components and strategies.
- Assist in the preparation of 8Ds and other quality/reliability reports to ensure continuous improvements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in automotive product development
- Experience with CAD tools (Unigraphics or CATIA) and part release process
- Understand the PPAP process
- Working experience with automotive systems design, packaging, and assembly requirements
- Working experience with Quality & Reliability disciplines (FMEA, 8D & APQP) and development process (PLM or PDM)
- Experience with battery systems, high-voltage (DC) systems, or high-current systems is desirable
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) and ability to discuss technical issues with a wide range of audiences
- Present to various levels of management with different depth of expertise
- Articulate specifics on product details
- Describe development proposals and problem descriptions
- Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering from a four-year college or university.
