GENERAL PURPOSE

This position is responsible for the design, development, and transition to production of consumer directed, aesthetically-pleasing, innovative, cost-effective and reproducible designs of furniture, mounts and accessories for the audio-visual industry. This position is responsible for participating on cross-functional development teams for the purpose of ensuring high integrity designs through effective use of appropriate analytical tools and techniques.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILTIES

  • Design aesthetically-pleasing, functional and manufacturable customer driven, innovative products
  • Responsible for assisting Marketing team members by providing leadership, guidance and education to both internal and external customers on product features, advantages and benefits stemming from the designs
  • Effectively interface with engineers, designers, technicians, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to meet project commitments
  • Effectively influence and communicate between internal departments to manage projects
  • Participate in developing project plans, test plans, and writing test reports; assist with creating, maintaining, and revising product project plans and effectively communicate project deadlines
  • Create product documentation: solid modeling of components and assemblies, technical drawings, BOM’s and ECO’s
  • Participate in and/or lead cross-functional teams for the associated product lines
  • Provide new product training to Marketing, Customer Service, Sales and others
  • Provide technical product support to customers
  • Learn and expand personal knowledge of the industry, competitors and the customers, through trade show attendance and direct and indirect customer interaction, to competitively enhance and grow the Company’s product capabilities
  • Represent Company at trade shows, trade association and client meetings to promote products and services
  • Understand workplace hazards and take steps to proactively prevent and report hazards or injuries in the workplace. Cooperate in Safety Programs, initiatives, and investigations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to interpret standards, specifications, procedures, drawings, etc.; mechanical aptitude
  • Effective project planning and execution skills; ability to multi-task and manage several projects at once
  • Need to be a flexible and adaptable facilitator between internal departments across brands and regions, to improve project time, design, and/or communications
  • Must possess high level of enthusiasm, strong integrity, keen customer service, excellent organizational skills and excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Desire to work in team environment as project leader or as an individual contributor
  • Be detail-oriented and have excellent follow-through skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to function in a deadline driven environment
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government law
  • Must possess high degree of professionalism
  • Computer literate (MS Office, e-mail, etc.)

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or other related technical degree with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience as a mechanical design engineer in a manufacturing environment; or combination of relevant education and experience
  • 3D CAD work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in consumer driven product design
  • DFMEA and FEA experience
  • Experience with SolidWorks
  • Electrical or controls experience
  • Experience working with multiple disciplines, including electrical and mechanical design, layout, manufacturing, external suppliers and service providers
  • UL, TUV and/or CE experience
  • Experience with SAP

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and make coordinated movements of the fingers for using a keyboard
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for product testing and tradeshow purposes
  • Combination of general office and machine shop environment
  • May require ground travel to other company facilities within local metropolitan area
  • Long-distance or air travel as needed – not to exceed 15% travel
