Job Description
Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials. Provides assistance to faculty, residents and students in respective clinic. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
Job Duties:
- Sets up treatment rooms for planned procedures including trays, instruments, materials and supplies; cleans and wraps chairs before and after appointments in preparation for next patient.
- Takes and develops digital x-rays, assist with oral examinations and patient charting.
- Receives and prepares patients for dental treatment including taking vitals.
- Passes instruments and materials and performs routine procedures.
- Manages and schedules patient appointments; maintains an active inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- A High school diploma or GED is required.
Experience:
- One (1) year of related experience or completion of an approved dental assistant course is required.
- Prior experience with prosthodontics is preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish or another language preferred.
- Must have good hand skills to work in tight quarters on a small part of the body, using precise tools and instruments.
- Ability to work closely with patients, faculty, and students.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor important and complex projects concurrently. Must have good listening skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes/other email software.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, including writing and preparing memorandums, letters, and other official correspondence.
Additional Licenses and Certifications:
- Registry with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is required.
