Responsibilities:Act as a facilities technician by being responsible for, operate, and maintain in good running order all machinery and equipment as assigned. This includes but is not limited to chillers (centrifugal and screw type), cooling towers, air handling units, variable frequency drives, and building automation systems (pneumatic and direct digital control), electricity and electrical distribution systems, changing ballasts, plumbing and piping systems, internal combustion engines, pumps, air compressors, generators, ice machines, air-conditioning units,Perform the duties of a technician as assigned. These responsibilities may include:The safe, economical operation of the plant.The carrying out of orders of the management in the operation of the building.Complete work orders as assigned on a timely basis. Report progress and completion on the automated work order system.Ensure that employee, student and visitor safety is the primary focus of all physical resources staff through procedure compliance, on-site inspection and training.Attend training and seminars that will enhance your knowledge and skills as an Engineer.Identify energy conservation measures and work with the engineering staff to implement.Participate in the on-going review and revision of engineering procedures practices.Any and all other duties assigned that relate to the mission of Grainger, the work of the physical resources department and the duties of an engineer. Position Requirements: Preferred Education & Experience:
Physical Requirements:This position requires the physical ability to perform heavy lifting, opening and closing of large valves under steam or water pressure, and the ability to work from ladders and scaffold under approved OSHA guidelines.
Sitting: Estimated at least 1.5 hours per dayStanding: Estimated at least 2 hours per weekWalking: Estimated at least 2 to 5 miles per day.Kneeling: Must have the physical ability to perform work as needed.Lifting: Estimated as not to exceed 80 lbsPushing: Estimated as not to exceed 100 lbsPulling: Estimated as not to exceed 100 lbsCarrying: Estimated as not to exceed 50 lbsComputer: At least 3 hours per week for e-mail and work order assignments. Employees are generally required to use e-mail to communicate with employees and vendors.Technology: This position requires the prior knowledge and use PC based building automation systems (Johnson Controls Metasys & Control Engineering Ensemble, Siemens and Teletrol Cylon), MS-Outlook e-mail and an automated work order system.
